  • Comments Thread For: Marriaga Makes Weight, Yap Well Over Limit For ESPN Headliner

Miguel Marriaga is ready to fight. As for Mark John Yap, a decision needs to be made after his epic scale fail. Thursday's ESPN-televised main event is in jeopardy after Yap (30-15, 15KOs)- a 31-year old journeyman from Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines-tipped the scales at a beefy 136.7 pounds, nearly nine pounds above the contracted 128-pound limit.

Marriaga (29-3, 25KOs) did his job like the consummate professional that he is, checking in at a fighting fit 127.1 pounds. It is now up to the Nevada State Athletic Commission and Top Rank to discuss how to handle things, as Yap is too far above the limit to attempt to shed the weight.

Would be bad ass if Mariagga still took it.

1 thing GOOD about corona is that now you don't have to wait till Saturday for boxing fights and those fights come out like hot cakes prolong all week!

a BAD thing about corona is that many fights are cancelled due to corona-infected fighters and idiots like this Yap.

He still wants it, but up to the commission it seems like.

I can't stand how inconsiderate these guys who miss weight are. Too much time and money gets flushed down the drain just because somebody is undisciplined.

I mean sometimes a fighter gets sick or maybe his opponent wasn't able to train as much due to the virus, but definitely not fair to your opponent. And he should have notified TR ahead of time that he was not going to make weight.

Should've kept the fight and give the fine money to Marriaga

Insane he came in that heavy, almost 9lbs above the limit. Either he was coming way down from even more than that or his body couldn't shed the weight for whatever reason.

Feel for Marriaga, can't be easy to train under current environment and Lord knows how many times he had to take a swab up the nose and all for his opponent to not even close to coming in on weight.
