What was the better win? Floyd over Canelo or Pacquiao over Margarito?

This is an easy one. I will take Floyd's win over Canelo. Floyd's performance in that fight is what my British friends like to describe as a masterclass. He jumped up four weight divisions in order to defeat a much younger, larger, stronger and undefeated champion.
He did what now? It was a better win than Pac over Margarito and one that looks even better in hindsight, but let's not oversell it.

I apologize for that. What I meant to say was that Floyd was a natural Super featherweight of a 130 lbs who had climbed up several weight divisions in order to defeat a younger and stronger Junior middleweight champion.Comment

Knocked out cold last fight by Mosley.
Coming of 2 yrs forced vacation for cheating, blew up to over 180.
Had one fight in Mexico against a cab driver at 154 and looked like sht.
Refused a license then had one bought for in Texas by Arum.
Peculiarities of the fight.
150 CW, illegal gloves, 26ft ring. Margaritio said in an interview he was promised the fight a year earlier, a time Manny was saying Floyd wouldnt fight him.
This entire fight was a scam a rort, whatever you want to call it, it was total BS.Comment

Floyd mighta been a 'natural' 130Lber at 21 or 22, but dudes fill out as they get into their mid and late 20s man, and then typically move up again when they hit about 30 and the cut becomes harder to make healthily. That kinda weight progression's well understood and predictable to the point at which promoters almost plan their fighters' careers around it, man, ain't really about dudes trying to challenge 'emselves (although Floyd was a very hungry fighter especially in his younger years).
Fully mature from 30 onwards Floyd was probably 'naturally' (although I hesistate to use the term in boxing cos there's nothing natural about what a lot of these dudes do to their bodies) somewhere between a JWW and WW, I suspect he could possibly have made 140 if he'd really had to, but why would he need to by that point?
Still though, undoubtedly he was giving up a lot of size against Canelo (who I notice you didn't describe as a Welter) which definitely makes it a more impressive achievement.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 07-16-2020, 02:30 PM.Comment
