Watched Duran Win The MW Title VS Barkley

Duran won by MD and claimed a title at MW, making him a 4 weight champ.
It was a close fight. A case could be made that Barkley outworked him. But at 37 and fighting at 160, Duran was pretty amazing. Barkley fought well and Roberto fought in spurts but Duran was such a natural fighter, great movement and really sweet short hooks and counters. Really fun to watch. The guy was just born to fight.

Close fight could have went either way, but the knockdown probably is the difference.
Barkley just iced Hearns, so he was expected to win against the older and smaller guy.
Duran showed why his is one of the greatest and delivered a throwback performance for the ages.

I remember watching that fight live for free on ESPN during a winter storm. I was moved.

I agree. I thought Barkley won a very close fight too with his workrate but I cannot argue with the verdict because Duran exceeded expectations. He fought a very good fight against a naturally larger man at 38 years old and not to mention dropping him to the canvas also.

Not a bad performance at all for a 38yo dude who in reality was a bloated lightweight

I think Duran was a major underdog.

This is why Duran is in many top 10s. Your losses can be forgiven.

Everyone thought Duran was shot when he got sparked by Hearns in 2. He was a major underdog in the fight knowing Hearns was sparked in 3 by Barkley. Duran was a legend then, he is a legend now.

Yeah, I noticed that. Clancy said he couldn't believe that Duran was the same guy who beat his fighter for the LW championship in 1972.
