Why did GGG give up so much ground against Canelo in the rematch?

Alvarez is bigger I think. Mofo fights at 175

ggg wouldn’t even 168 to chase glory fighting Ward

GGG doesn't seem to like body shots and Canelo throws them in bunches. They were definitely exhausting him in the fight. Very close fight though.

I think the key to Golovkin winning besides magically becoming younger is to use his jab and even double up on it periodically and go to the body with hard shots. So what if he gets countered he's getting hit anyway.

Let me ask you. If you have more reach than your opponent what good does it do if you give that up and only decide to fight close range? A shorter arm in a short distance will reach its target first.

The same goes with hand speed. If GGG and Canelo both throw lead hooks in range who's do you think will hit first?

GGGs best range is mid range right at the end of his jab. With Canelo refusing to give up ground where do you think GGG would have gone?

          The outside.

And LOW IQ people make a big deal out of this. You use what tools you have to win a fight and fighting ****** isnt how you win.
Well said. I'd also like to add, at the end of round 7 Abel Sanchez told GGG to stay in the pocket with Canelo. When GGG came out in round 8 he followed Abels advice and ate a bunch of counters.

This was a crucial part of the fight, GGG had built up some considerable momentum at that point. I understand the fear of getting robbed, but GGG was hurting Canelo, I don't know why Abel couldn't see that.

Canelo is faster, a better counter puncher and has very good defence. Ggg is longer and has a better jab...he was trying to control the distance and make Canelo come to him. If you take the preconceived idea of how the fight was “supposed” to go, ggg had pretty good success with that game plan, especially being the age he was and his legs not being what they used to be. Imo, if he would have tried to walk canelo down and go shot for shot, he would have come out worse.

It's because Abel probably wanted to win his way.

Also he probablybdidnt want to lose face because of all **** talking he was doing. GGG turned the fight around once he stopped listening to Abel an started to box.

You’ve clearly never boxed a day in your life before and don’t know shyt about boxing.

By pressuring a quicker opponent and moving them back to the ropes and wearing them down, their hand speed becomes less of an issue.

Boxing them in the center of the ring is how you get countered badly.

See Margarito Cotto 1 and Maidana Mayweather 1.

Anyone who’s even sparred at all would know this, yet your dumb ass doesn’t.
