    the weight killed him

or should I say... the completely unheard of, $3.5m per pound or-part-thereof, weight penalty... killed him

anyone who took Hoya 12 hard rounds would be dragging him into deep water

Edwin Valero (who was DLH sparring partner for that fight) let spanish media know when DLH fired him from camp, that DLH was in no condition to fight and that he got fired for bringing too much heat to sparring sessions.

Basically it was Rocky III for DLH, too much fame, too good, and also with too much parties.

Incredibly dehydrated. You'd know this if you watched boxing instead of watched boxrec.

Oscar would have been stressing big time the 12 hrs before the fight because he would have been feeling like sht.

He did not respect Pacquiao's ability at 147
'Up until that point he was a good fighter in the lower weight classes but? was constantly being bashed about' Even when Pacquiao won fights he was taking a beating most of the time etc

De La Hoya thought in his mind 'I can be tight at the weight and still beat this guy' De La Hoya's judgement lead to a error in preparation.

The weight was a consequence of not putting everything on his camp, he undeniably underestimated pacman; all the signs were there and Valero gave them away, maybe people didn't believe, but bet you pac camp was happy with the rumors.
He probably party so hard that had no muscles or stamina to last the 12 rounds and had to lose the weight the last couple of days with the body not recovering. You can't blame dehydration just for the last day, it was a sequence of bad choices.
I guess he didn't stop partying, doing coke, being a dragq; nothing wrong with anything of that, what's wrong is that the guy was supposed to be training not being a ****** college frat boy.

Oscar was extremely mummified going into that fight. Manny's greatest win is also his most advantaged and favorable win. Manny wasn't testing for PEDs back then and more than likely was juiced up, Manny dragged Oscar down to 147 where he hadn't fought in years. Manny only fought Oscar after Floyd put a beating on him and he looked bad against a journeyman.
Manny had every conceivable advantage hell he even outweighed Oscar.
Manny's highlight career is built on strategically picking the "right fights" at the "right time." And placing catchweight conditions on them. And ducking tough fights at standard weight. Mosley wanted Manny years before they fought. Manny had no good reason not to fight him. Never happened. PW? Never happened. Floyd Mayweather? Never happened. In fact it didn't happen until Manny and co (Roach) were constantly talking about how shot Floyd's legs looked and how his stamina was gone because he had gotten older, etc. That means they waited on Floyd, who was already older than Manny and no longer in his prime- to get even older before fighting him. Strategic *****. Again.

He was very dehydrated but Roach and Ariza not only predicted he’s have weight issues, they were also pointing it out during the build up, that he is having trouble.

Not only that, but Roach pointed out after the Forbes fight, that DLH can’t pull the trigger anymore and that if Forbes can do what he did to DLH, then Pacquiao could do worse to him. I remember Forbes made DLH’s face look like he got stung by bees, which was my same comment in the post fight of that match. It was pretty bad. And that fight was like at 150lbs or something like that. And Forbes was a JWW who didn’t have a hard punch.

DLH beat Forbes easily, but his face definitely suffered.

When people claim this to be one of Mannys greatest win they sure dont understand what a massive handicap the weight was on Oscar, Im not blaming Manny he did what he is supposed to do but Oscar was ruined and had no chance before the bell sounded.

                    Well said.

Casuals and pac stains like to consider it some big statement win, but the reality is any other version of ODLH puts Manny in a hospital.

Dehydrated to bits. Nobodies fault but his own and his camps...

You can't say he'd smash him at whatever weight or under whatever circumstances, facts are he got it wrong and got his arse handed to him. There's nothing suggesting they'd get it right at any other point in time..

As Eminem would say " you only get one shot"
