Because he's a much better boxer than Smith who got stopped and Golovkin knew he could outbox Canelo.
If Golovkin ''knew'' to outbox Canelo you'd see punch variation just like any other elite fighter would. Instead GGG hid behind a jab that missed most of the time. Liam Smith wasn't afraid to let go power punches. Imagine Hagler or Monzon just hiding behind a jab and missing in their worst compubox everz

Nonsense Golovkin out landed Canelo in damed near every round in both fights. A jab is a punch it's counted as a punch and he landed plenty of them. Enough to force Canelo to go to the ropes in the first fight on numerous occasions. He also landed hurtfull hooks right hands and uppercuts in the center of the ring in that first fight. There are a couple of reasons Canelo went to the ropes. One was pressure from Golovkin in ring center. He fid not like the incoming. Two, a poor understanding by him of how the fight was unfolding. It was obvious to me and Canelo's corner that Canelo on the ropes was not effective. They were telling him to stay off the ropes. He didn't listen. I might have to qualify that last part. Given some of the outrageous scoring in some of Canelo's prior fights he may have realized all he had to do was throw power punches that didn't hurt Golovkin or discourage him, not get knocked out and he wouldn't lose. A lot of credit is given Canelo for switching up in the second fight when in reality all he did was follow the directions of his corner this time. Stay off the ropes throw flashy combinations and take advantage of his combination punching. Unbelievably the judges gave him undue credit for abandoning the idiotic game plan of the first fight and fighting in a manner that any competent fighter would have adopted.
Just watched that fight. Smith is a tough mofo. Dem Smith boys ain’t playing. He was very aggressive and landed hell on Canelo’s guard.
Why didn’t GGG fight “British Style?”
As you always do you are lying your ass off about what happened in fights involving GGG and whoever you are saying fought better than him. Combutbox numbers. Smith threw 403 punches at Canelo and landed 115 punches on Canelo in a bit less than 10 rounds. In contrast GGG threw 879 punches at Canelo and landed 234 punches on Canelo. So GGG threw well over twice as many punches at Canelo than Smith and landed well over twice as many punches on Canelo than Smith. The 234 punches GGG landed on Canelo was far more landed punches than any other opponent ever landed on Canelo and it was over 50 more punches than Canelo landed on him. These numbers don't lie but you sure do. You should change your name to liar's bidness because lying about GGG, Plant, Spence and Loma is all you do.
