I thought I read a few months ago that Calzaghe admitted that a prime RJJ would have beaten him. Had a quick look for it, but couldn't find it.Comment

I agree with Calzaghe, as far as the fight possibly ending up a boring situation. But why mention the old version of a Hopkins that eventually relied on surprising opponents with measured non-telegraphic (as good as they were) pot shots!
Ward was in his PRIME and far more active in the ring - and faaar more capable of matching unconventional fire with a water hose.
The Hopkins Calzaghe fought was chess board calculatingly slow, not like the younger hustle penitentiary version of himself. It’s why Jermaine Taylor realized his best bet was to out hustle the old man (Taylor won BOTH fights, so leave me alone).
The youthful gangsta version of Hopkins would be in your face all night - with well placed shots! He ‘probably’ would’ve held Calzaghe at bay - had Calzaghe second guessing his usual non-stop flurry responses.
Calzaghe hadn’t fought a prime Hopkins (nor a prime Jones)! Calzaghe wasn’t so much slick as he was blessed with ‘Ripley’s Believe It or Not’ endurance. Skilz would’ve had to come into play against these HOFers in their respective primes. Relying totally on well placed endurance shots would’ve been insulting against these guys.
Like Prince Naseem, Calzaghe could have had real trouble with a confident sound fundamental fighter. Calzaghe’s unorthodox style was ripe for a confident fundamental rhythm. Which is probably why he admitted a young Roy would’ve probably taken him, especially with that speed included!
Calz was never ‘attacked’ all night by a sound fundamental fighter, in contrast to when he attacked limited hook Lacy with his cool unconventional barrage of shots.
I guess you can tell where I’m going with this? Ward is no slouch, neither is Calzaghe. Their minds were their greatest assets - so as a fan of the sport, I can tolerate Calzaghe speculating up to a point..lol.
The fact remains - Calzaghe’s never fought an established infighter that’s gonna strategically STAY ‘inside’ no matter how much distance is created.
Someone like Andre, who would’ve had quick solid counter shots aimed at Calzaghe’s jawline(?) would be a big new strategic deal for Enzo & son to deal with.... BIG respect to Enzo btw for being that cool involved dad!! I dug Calzaghe’s style big time.
I was knocking down some vodka, so pardon any run on’s...lol..Comment

Calzaghe would've schooled Andrr Fraud 1 million percent. 46-0 against a smug lying ducking retired early twat. No comparisonComment
