Big money goes to fighters that even non-fans know about. Everybody knew Ali-Frazier was something to watch.
All the movie stars flocked to Vegas for Hagler-Leonard or even Tyson-Wilder.

The big gate and huge PPV money won't be with Whyte-Fury. Especially if Fury doesn't even want it and wouldn't play it up with his usual antics.

If he did, the fight COULD be promoted and sold to the general public as... DILLIAN WHYTE vs SILLY 'N WHITE.

I think you are missing the point. Why did WBC practically allow Whyte to chose his own opponent and then suddenly decide the fight is the final eliminator?

Povetkin is a washed-up fighter who struggled against Hunter, so yeah that is easy. It would have been great 5-10 yrs ago but not now. Chisora is/was a tough guy but a gatekeeper at best and not an upper-tier fighter. Rivas was brought from God knows where in the ranking to be placed at #7 for no reason except to make Whyte look good. Rivas did end up being competitive but that's not the point.

The point is #1 should fight #2 for the final eliminator and if #2 is not available, then go for #3 and so on. Someone down the line might be good and tough but not a final eliminator.

No. They wouldn't be in the slightest.

By Wilder. The most dominant champ in recent history. However, he was only stopped the 2nd time by Wilder, because bum whyte avoided him. That could've been bum whyte in the ring that night had he taken the mandatory fight against Ortiz. Which was also would've gotten a voluntary defense shot at the title.
