I think the writer is saying that cheating is wrong period, where you do something blatantly obvious like remove padding from a glove or something more subtle like take PEDs. The connection is in the intent behind both, which is to gain an unfair advantage against your opponent

The failure of those involved in boxing to take a firm stance against the cheaters is an absolute disgrace. But this isn't just down to the sanctioning bodies and commissions. All the promoters, managers and trainers that know the fighters are doing PEDs and the fighters themselves who know who's doing it and supplying and just say nothing for fear of upsetting the status quo are also complicit.

Like others have said many times before, this isn't running, swimming or riding a cycle faster or longer; this is punching another person in the head and body.

It isn't a simple binary decision. If you want to say that all "cheating" is equal and deserving of the same penalty, you would have to consider a definition of what cheating is.

I would argue that a rich boxer with a good trainer and equipment could be considered cheating if he's preparing to fight a poor man with poor equipment.

It's a way to gain an unfair advantage, as are all other forms of "cheating". If it were a blanket ban, rich fighters would have to share their training with the opponent or be banned for life.

The subtleties make each case unique, and they should be reviewed on a case by case basis.

He also failed a drugs test while kickboxing in 2014 and got banned for 9 months...

I'm not sure what he has to do to get kicked out of contact sport altogether?

And that, my friend, is the point of the article. It clearly went over a lot of ppl's heads. The guy has been caught cheating more than once, and yet his fat @ss has a fight coming up.
