  • Comments Thread For: Callum Smith's Coach: If Canelo Wants The Fight, Must Make Serious Offer

Joe Gallagher, trainer for WBA super middleweight champion Callum Smith, says Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez would have to come in with a "serious offer" if he truly wants to make a deal. When looking for an opponent for his planned return in May, Canelo's handlers had sent offers to Smith and WBO world champion Billy Joe Saunders.

So you accepted the offer, but GBP didn’t get back to you when you know industry press was dribbling potential opponents.

Why don’t you just make headlines that you’d be willing to renegotiate terms from what you agreed to, while acknowledging that the pandemic would affect attendance?

    If not, stfu!

Surely Gallagher understands it won't work like that? Smith is gonna be offered the short end, which he can take or leave, in order to get his shot at Canelo. It will still almost certainly be more than he's ever made before. Smith isn't the draw here. If him and his team are do confident they'll win, take what's offered and make bigger money afterwards.

This guy got offered 8 million plus incentives, which would have ended up being around 10-12 million when it was all said and done. Same offer BJS got, same offer Jacobs got, and about the same Kovalev got, Kovalev got a few extra. So you're telling me that's not a serious offer? Come on now, The most Smith has made is 3 million, so 3 to 4 times more than you have ever made is not a serious offer? Smith, Plant, all these guys want the stars and the moon when they are not worth it, they just use this as an excuse to dodge Canelo and then claim that Canelo is the one who doesn't want to fight. Give me a break, only fans with an I.Q of 10 buy this B.S.

Correctomundo! They are all playing the Shelly Finkel handbook to cry about what an other fighter is getting like AJ on DAZN.

Eventually industry is going to shift dramatically towards Canelo because I doubt fighters can persuade industry for who should get what... as if they wouldn’t know how the game works.

Oh wow, big shame on boxers for wanting to get paid vs boxing's biggest star. They see dazn overpaying Canelo with 35 mil a fight, they see dazn also overpaying for ggg and jacobs, so they want their cut. Plus these many of these UK guys bring in fans & subscriptions. When you consider that Canelo really didn't do great ppv numbers historically when he doesn't have a strong b side, they want to get paid if they're bringing something to the table. Rocky fielding was a complete nobody who was ko'd in 1 round by Smith and he cleared over a mil vs Canelo.

Industry writers don’t care about their excuses. How much PPV did Floyd bring with Berto after beating #48? “Strong B sides” doe

Like fighting Canelo isn't going to be the payday of his life. Liam got 3 mil? A boxing bonanza. Where is Callums earning power? All Canelo, Callum hopes he gets a call. Las Vegas, if he haggles for anything. No Texas, or Arizona. They turn off the lights early.

Who historically makes great ppv numbers without a good name across them?

The mistake these fighters are thinking is that they’ve got any kind of say. Canelo is guaranteed a certain amount of money whether it’s against Callum or against one of us. There’s zero leverage. Let’s be real, the amount of new fans some of these guys bring in is negligible. Most people who even know who BJS even is have DAZN for AJ and Canelo already. You can overpay GGG because the man was a legitimate dominant force and should he fight Canelo (and win), he’s on the network for another lucrative fight..with said Canelo. Likewise for Jacobs with some of the other fighters. It’s done to lock in most the best fighters in the division so you dont have the hot divisions that Canelo is marauding in devoid of good fighters. Otherwise you’re in Charlo’s spot with zero credibility or opponents.

I'm sick of these dudes overpricing themselves.

STFU, take the short money, beat Canelo's ass, THEN the world is yours.

                    Not before.

                    They just don't get it.
