Comments Thread For: Which Active Fighters Deserve To Be Called Great?
Collapse

If pacquiao keeps fighting and winning against notable young opponents, we might need a better term than greatness
-
Which of the current fighters can currently ascend to greatness with just one realistic matchup ? Mine would be:
PAC is great already, just a case of where he ends up on the ATG list. If he could beat Spence or Crawford he is top ten ATG
Canelo > Beterbiev
Golovkin - Canelo (given he is 38)
Gonzalez > Estrada
Inoue > Russell (bit of a push but if he could make the leap)
Lomachenko > Mikey Garcia at 140

But I liked that Mikey Garcia got a mention in this article! A big win is needed here. This is why the Pacquiao fight is more than just money for Mikey, like everyone thinks. A win against a legend, a title in a 5th division. If Mikey can pull it off, he's a HOF as well! Bring the fight!

I don’t hate him but I do get a good laugh when they scream he’s atg
This from the same people who call Wilder a bum but only after he got defeated now call Fury atg

Inoue will in all likelihood end up in the hall of fame. As the article says though, being in the hall of fame is not the same as being great. And like it or not, Inoue did struggle with an old Donaire. Great fight, and may end up as being a part of a career that we call great, but in and of itself it suggests a ceiling to his abilities that he laboured to get past a fighter who is well past his prime. As the article also points out, rating a fighter before their career is out is a perilous exercise. Inoue hasn't even had 20 fights.
