Too bad Jones wanted nothing to do with them after he beat John Ruiz almost 20 years ago. Instead he got KOd by Antonio Tarver. Wouldn't you rather have been KOd by hall of famers than Antonio Tarver? Bad move in retrospect.

He fought with no heart in fight 3, he fought with no heart against Calzaghe, he fought with no heart against Hopkins in their 2nd fight....and then he fought with no chin after that. He should have fought Hopkins and Calzaghe in his prime. He should have fought Benn and Nunn. Perhaps he would have caught the ghost and gained unlimited riches and world wide notoriety.......and wouldn't be talking about getting knocked out against Tyson (or Holyfield).....which is bound to happen.
Roy was 36 in 2004 when he was KO’d by Tarver.
By the time he fought Calzaghe or Hopkins he was a shell of his old self.
This idea that he fought with no heart can only come from someone who doesn’t know shït about boxing.
Calzaghe is now 48, if he were to comeback to fight someone much younger and get beat up, would you say he fought with no heart? Or would you just acknowledge he’s old and shouldn’t be fighting?

After Jones beat Ruiz, would have loved to have seen him against Tyson. He was still slick and brilliant, but I think he knew Tyson, even at that stage l, was very dangerous, more than Ruiz obviously. So besides Lewis, I think if Tyson caught him, he would have knocked Jones out. Lennox would've been an even bigger challenge. But we will never know now. Grateful for the privilege of seeing the greatness of those guys. I don't see anyone today in the heavyweight or light heavyweight division with the skills of Jones Lewis and Mike Tyson.

Goddamn! What the fuck have all these old motherfuckers done with their money? First there was Mike Tyson, then Evander Holyfield, James Toney, Shannon Briggs and now Roy Jones, Jr. They all must be broke as shit if they are contemplating fighting well into their 50s!

Oregonian. You're a cowardly slicked mouth online clown. I know quite a bit about boxing. Let's have a meeting of the boxing minds one day. I'll destroy you. I stand by my Roy Jones claims. I don't have a problem with him getting stopped in fight number 2 against Tarver. These things happen. But when he fought Tarver in fight number 3, he disappointed me big time. He clearly hit Tarver with something in that fight that shook all of Tarver's confidence. Rather than be bold and go for the ko, he took his foot off the gas, and then almost got knocked out himself. When he fought Calzaghe, leading up to the fight, he had a lot to say. When the fight began, he dropped and hurt Calzaghe. Instead of being bold and going for the ko, he took his foot off the gas...and barely survived the rest of the way. He had no problem picking on a smaller and lesser threat in Tito Trinidad. The greats challenge themselves. He didn't challenge himself after Tarver..and Johnson. In big, dangerous fights, a killer instinct and heart is needed. Jones shown neither. He was a big disappointment. And I'll repeat, when he was in his prime campaigning to receive a 70 to 30 split, he should have fought Calzaghe, Hopkins (in a rematch), Benn, and Nunn. To beat an old Tyson or Holyfield, it will take heart. Roy shouldn't be in the ring with either (neither should Tyson or Holyfield, but that's a different argument). He won't fight with heart. He'll gladly take the ko. Who wants to see that?Last edited by Lefty0616; 05-28-2020, 03:17 PM.
