For Tyson Fury co-trainer Andy Lee, the WBC heavyweight champion can go down as one of the greatest fighters who ever laced up a pair of gloves in the sport's glamour division. Lee believes Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs), who is coming fresh off a resounding victory over Deontay Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KOs) in February, is on a path to surpass some of the best boxers in history. Ironic--always loved andy lee and believed he was underrated and had some bad luck in his career.
This era of HWs wouldn't allow him to but people definitely love to overglorify the good old days. Some of the tomato cans Ali, Mike, Holyfield etc. Fought probably wouldn't even be sanctioned today.
He could be, but lets be realistic. These heavyweights are super heavyweights. They need to be in their own division. Of course the old heavyweight greats like Ali, Frazier, rock, liston, Tyson, holyfield would struggle because they would be giving up 4-6 inches in height and 30 - 40 plus pounds to these guys now.
Not saying they couldn't beat these guys but its a different time and breed of fighters. Think of comparing any other sport now to the players back in the 60s 70s 80s..
If Ali was the same height and weight proportion to fury Ali would destroy fury in his prime. Hell mike tyson at 5 10 almost 5 11 wouldn't be able to touch a 6 9 fury
Tyson's drug violations of steroid and ******* abuse, ban from the sport and all the cheating he has perpetrated, rules him out of any serious GOAT conversation.
Beating 40 yr old Wlad in the most boring title fight of all time; beating no skills Wilder and still being almost knocked out, and potentially beating muscle bound AJ, who got thrashed by a taco munching dough boy, doesn't earn GOAT in my books
I mean it's arbitrary & debatable so yeah sure he can in theory. Who gives a fook about that? I doubt Tyson even does. He's just trying to be the best of his time. And to me he's basically already done that by making Wlad look like a unsure guy in his first meaningful fight & making Wilder go from the predator to the prey on his latest fight. A AJ win will cement his place in this era even among those reasonable fans still having doubts currently.
If Fury can defend his belts another 4/5 times, against threats that fans want then he would definitely be in the conversation. By the next 2 years there would be newer and younger guys, those guys would have hype and fans screaming for them to KO Fury, if Fury can take two or three of them out then it’s a wrap. He has to be in the conversation.
Fury will go down as the greatest Cheater of all time! There’s clearly no one like him, a true enigma that got away without major press on failed PED test and lies exposed in the order of the public based on boar meat!
Christian hammer in the fight the ref caught Fury with the thumb on the glove cut off the attachment to the glove which is illegal! The UK ref was so ashamed that he shook his head in disappointment and told team Fury get another glove or they forfeit the fight but of course they had another glove in case they get caught!
In the Cunningham fight veteran referee in over 24 years RIP Eddie Cotton who reffed the fight said Tyson Fury was the dirtiest fighter he’s ever reffed and he reffed THREE Andrew Golota fights!!
It’s time Fury stops keep getting passes for his bs! Too many cowards on here not man enough and fan of boxing enough to call him out on the facts!
There's a difference between being the greatest and being the best.
For example, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever but if I got first pick I'm taking Lebron.
King James checks more boxes than MJ.
Life on the line gun to my head I'm picking Tyson Fury over ALL those shorter heavyweights ALLTIME. ANY era.
He's a BIG long skilled puzzle that has yet to be figured out that would be a problem in any era of boxing.
I assume you are using the definitions as follows:
Greatest- most accomplished.
Best- the athlete who in a neutral environment would do the most to, or most likely would, win. Compared to all others.
Ive always cared more about best in that instance. And feel that if what you are evaluating as ‘greatest ’ consistently give you the same answer as the one who is ‘best’ then you are choosing the wrong criteria.
Tyson's drug violations of steroid and ******* abuse, ban from the sport and all the cheating he has perpetrated, rules him out of any serious GOAT conversation. Can you have any respect for the late great Muhammad Ali if he spent his time hitting a crack-pipe?
Aww Elie why are you still so bitter?
Best man won on the night. You were so sure the bronze bomber was gonna take out the Gypsy King
but that didn't happen. This is not a dream but it's obviously been a living hell for you. You probably can't bring yourself to even watch the highlight reel.
