Martinez said that he'd fight GGG after he beat Cotto. Unfortunately his knee injury was too much, resulting in his loss to Cotto.
That's funny clenelo said he'd fight GGG after cotto as well, we saw what happened there

Link that timeline info to ggg and Sergio Martinezs box rec. trust me there’s a reason why it takes at least 15 minutes to cross reference

Was he supposed to fight ggg exactly when it was best for ggg? Your logic is flawed. They fought, ggg lost. It is what it is. Maybe ggg will advise his fighters to start their careers earlier

Way I see it unless a dude's mandatory any talk of ducking is ******.. there's no rules and regs that say who you gotta fight beyond what the sanctioning body says you gotta do to retain your title.. Way I understand it the WBC was already thinking about Cotto vs Maravilla with the winner to eventually face Canelo pretty much as soon as Sergio shattered their hopes of turning Chavez Jr into their next Mexican superstar.

Lou's right in my opinion, GGG was no-one at the time, huge risk very little reward and certainly not woth risking the potential Cotto payday over. I'll never crticiese a fighter for putting the biggest paydays first, especially not the older dudes who need to be thinking foremost about how they're gonna pay for the rest of their lives.

It's obvious no one wanted anything to do with GGG for about 5 years...he had a little buzz to get his name mentioned with the other top guys...but fighting GGG didn't pay at all, and you were very likely to get beat/stopped and then possibly hurt...it's easy to take a $5 million payday to dance around with Floyd for 12 rounds, and afterwards everyone says how great you are even though you lost.

And your profile is raised...it's not a smart decision to take 500k to fight GGG when you can make that much or more fighting someone else...and after the fight, it is very likely everyone calls you a bum who lost to some no-name guy.

Boxing would get much better fights if we had one promoter like the UFC with Dana...but UFC has their issues compared to boxing too so it is what it is.

Another ignorant imbecile, GGG, the mando to Cotto agreed to step aside to let clenelo fight Cotto on the proviso the winner fought him next, why do you think the WBC stripped clenelo, clenelo begged like a little girl for another fight at MW to acclimatise to the weight, GGGagreed and who did clenelo pick to acclimatise to MW, KHAN, the drug cheat who is teabagging you has no honour

The timelime isn't a duck for me. Martinez was done after the Chavez fight. He then went with the easier homecoming option against the English guy (Rivalry), and from there it was evident that he was looking to take sell his belt to the highest bidder, Lou di bella was honest about that, GGG himself is currently doing the same thing, if you accuse Martinez of ducking GGG back then, you would have to accuse GGG of the same chit now.
