This is just an observation, not the definitive word. Canelo tends to fight name fighters and/or those fighters with belts. Going out on a limb here, but I think that this is part of a strategy to burnish his brand and increase his exposure. Thus enabling him to command top dollar. This is not necessarily a riskless, passive strategy. Whether you agree with the results or not, he did take on Trout when he was undefeated, as well as Lara and Mayweather. All this against the advice of Golden Boy and De La Hoya. Moreover, he had Oscar make serious money offers to Charlo and Callum Smith, both of whom turned down the offer. He also had Golden Boy approach Plant and ask if he would be willing to fight Canelo. Plant, for his own reasons, turned down the offer flat out so no formal money offer was made. Editorializing now: I find it interesting and a bit puzzling that Charlo, Golovkin, and a host of others can fight, lower-tier fighters and that doesn't raise an eyebrow. Canelo fights champions. former champions or moves up two weight classes to fight a light-heavyweight champion and people pitch a fit! Go figure...

"It was a secondary person who reached out and, um, you know, we said no we’re not doing that. They didn’t offer money, we didn’t price ourselves out.”

So you explicitly shut them down, and still expected an offer!

Just do your homework. Canelo doesn't do well against pure boxers or boxer/punchers who have a good jab.

He was down on the scorecards against a faded Kovalev. He did nada against Jacobs. Plant is big, and fresher, faster and hungrier. Thus, a serious challenge.

But hey! Bias fans are what they are.

No u r bias, bcuz Canelo ko'd Kovalev cold and schooled Danny Jacobs. And yeah its easy to look fast against Uzecategui and the Subway guy.

Plant and his little 8mile story might get a few people to bite at the thought. But the truth is, Canelo beats Plant if he fights him or he doesnt. In fact I hope Canelo never fights Plant.

Funny that, it's a fight most decent fighters between 154 and 175 seem to want as well.
Wonder what their rea$on$ could be......?

How did he school Jacobs? he didn't do shiat in that fight, which was the anti-climax of that year.

And yet he KOd a faded and gazed out Kovalev. But he was getting outboxed and was down on the cards.

Now, if you can't acknowledge Plant's skills, then you are the one who is bias, and thus I can't help you. Nobody can.

No whiteboy is beating up a top level P4P Mexican. Just isn't going to happen.

This will be Chavez/Haugen all over again.

Ever see the movie "Great White Hype" with Samuel L. Jackson as a promoter? Something similar will happen, except it would be a Mexican KOing the white hype.

                    BTW

Judges Dave Moratti and Julie Lederman had Alvarez leading 96-94 at the time of the stoppage, while Don Trella had it 95-95.
Canelo was ahead at the time of the stoppage.

I remember a certain P4P great saying the exact same thing... I think his name was Hopkins. lol

PS Canelo was ahead on analysts card... not on official scorecards, because.. well... you just can't win against him on the official scorecards. Remember Mayweather, GGG and Lara?
