Comments Thread For: Bellew Names Three Boxers Who Could Cross Over To UFC

Over the last few years, there have been plenty of boxers who mulled the possibility of crossing over to MMA - and plenty of mixed martial artists who are open to the idea of entering the sport of boxing. The boxing-MMA frenzy erupted in 2017, when UFC superstar Conor McGregor fought Floyd Mayweather in a crossover boxing match.

Dillian and (if his body held up) Haye are decent picks. Whyte had an MMA fight back in the day and had an extensive kickboxing background. Haye did BJJ, i think I heard somewhere once that he was a purple belt which aint too shabby if true.

The current UFC HW division is at one of its weakest points ever outside of the top three. If you throw these guys the type of opponents that Greg Hardy has been getting I dont see why they couldnt do okay.

ANY MMA fighter worth his weight in salt, would NOT stand and fight with ANY boxer!

Like that one ****** fk...... cant think of his name, but he faught Mercer, and actually tried to box with him. Lol I'm sitting there watching it, thinking, how fking ****** are you??

        Smh.

At the same time though, if the boxer has learned some serious take down defence, then he has a chance at the top.

Theres some variables going on here, like take down defence, (boxer), take down ability, (MMA fighter), stamina of the MMA fighter, because shooting in on someone, takes a lot of energy, and ability to finish the boxer if he gets him down.

Get someone like Mark Coleman, from years ago, and they'll Maurice Smith the MMA fighter.

A boxer with a good chin, can learn to deal with ground and pound, and survive long enough for the standup. That's MUCH easier to deal with, then a submission ARTIST.

Before standups, boxers had little to no chance in MMA.

Cant fault MMA for that though, as no one wants to see 2 dudes laying on each other for 30 minutes.

What would you say wins the most UFC fights , TKO KOs with fists, or submissions.

The good muay thai/kickboxing/karate guys could. Pure boxing vs a boxer would be pretty ****ing ****** though.

Del Boy?!?! He don't even look like he could kick a can on the sidewalk let alone a mfers leg or head in the cage. He's tough, but idk that he'd do well in MMA. I feel like he'd have his back taken & choked out in every fight.

Whyte is the obvious choice at HW. Regis & Loma would be my picks in lighter division.

If Boxing promoters and Dana White were smart, they would do cross over series... Pick two guys, do one fight in boxing ring with boxing rules, one fight in MMA ring with mma rules and then one crossover, somewhere in the middle.

I think that would help highlight both organizations.
