for me the main factor is not advanced sports science, but sheer volume of fights they had in the past ,people often watch this fights and say that fighters looked sloppy ,they do cuse they fight a lot ,current fighters could fight 10 times a year ,but quality of fights would be bad , lets say Floyd face Pac 2x ,cotto and Castillo x2 in 1 year ,would he be perfectly prepared for all this fights?
Is Ray Robinson the G.O.A.T why or why not?

He’s a pioneer in the sport and a legendary champion who was by far the greatest boxer of his generation. He was unmatched for years and beat all the great fighters in his era and was 129-1 at one point I believe. However I do believe boxing has evolved since then and skill wise and certainly when you combine that with his IQ, Floyd Mayweather is the best fighter ever. Not the most popular or the most entertaining, but if you look at all his attributes there’s never been anyone better, or anyone that ruled boxing like he did.
50-0 against 25 champions, 5 different weight classes and only had 4-5 fights that were even competitive. The smartest fighter ever and he’s also done more for boxing than any fighter. He’s literally changed the game and I’ll just give you one example how. All the top fighters nowadays are getting paid huge money because of him especially the guys at the lower weight classes. They used to get peanuts now these guys are getting 2-3 million per fight. He made fighters more aware of getting what they’re worth and this is a great thing for the sport. Not to mention random drug testing among other things I could go on and on.
Despite that Ray to me is right up there with TBE and I see a lot of similarities between them and I encourage you guys to watch the documentaries on him. I’ve gotta give it to Floyd as far as being the best ever but guys like Robinson and Ali were legends who changed the game and paved the way so that Mayweather could be where he’s at today. Both legends and great fighters in their own right. Robinson especially you guys have to watch the documentaries on him if you haven’t already.Comment

What I will also say is this “GOAT debate” is a tricky one because everyone’s definition or what they judge it on is different. Some people might say “Muhammad Ali is the greatest because of what he did outside the ring” etc or “SRR is the greatest because his record will never be duplicated etc”. You can’t really argue with those comments. Ali is bigger than boxing and stood for a great cause but that’s not how I define who is the best ever.
I’m just talking skills and the total package combined with their career. You can argue Ray fought a hundred more fights than Floyd but skill wise I have to put Mayweather as number one. Complete fighter, best defence ever and the smartest ever. Plus he dominated the game 20 years without a loss at the top level and there’s nobody else that can say that. I don’t think there’s anyone in or around his weight class that would’ve been able to beat him I’m just being honest. Expecting to get a lot of hate for this but it is what it is. Everyone hated Ali and didn’t realise his greatness until he retired, then they said he’s the greatest and now we’re seeing the same with a Floyd. For me I’ve never seen anyone better than him.Comment

I think you could make a case for a handful of select fighter being the GOAT. Robinson, Ali, Louis, Mayweather, Leonard, Armstrong, and Duran. These fighters skill, will, resume, and ability transcended the sport and cemented them as the best to ever do it.Comment

Uh yeah,
The guy went 100-1-2 in the 1940s.
Started his career 128-1-2
Won 91 fights in a row
He's the GOAT welterweight.
Arguably, the GOAT middleweight
And was this close to being the light heavyweight champion, winning on all cards against Joey Maxim, but the 100 degree weather made him collapse in his corner in the 14th round.
Like, it's not hyperbole to propose that SRR could beat anyone ever between 147-175.

For me, it hard to give good rating to guys who fought during his time. How can a guy find 5 legit guys to fight in a year much less a month
?!?!?!?
All of this 10+ fights a month crap.....straight up padding the resume. That time span is also littered with face first clumsy oafs. He was certainly written up as the GOAT.Comment

Gonna be honest with you boxers from that era were not even drug tested (yes their were PED's in that era) plus the mob was tied HEAVILY into boxing (LaMotta for example is known to have losses because he was ordered to take a dive).Uh yeah,

GOAT
That's why SRR at least in my eyes would be classified in a different era.
Hell even for his era Joe Lewis has more of shot of being the GOAT then SRR because of what he did for boxing overall and the fact the he is a HW.
This is why Mayweather will never be considered GOAT over Ali and outside of America he will never be thought of higher then Pacquiao (this is mainly in Asia).
Ali and Pacquiao have transcended boxing. Mayweather hasn't.Comment

1. NO ONE past or present transcended boxing the way Ali has, point blank.Gonna be honest with you boxers from that era were not even drug tested (yes their were PED's in that era) plus the mob was tied HEAVILY into boxing (LaMotta for example is known to have losses because he was ordered to take a dive).

2. Floyd LITERALLY changed the sport, there is random drug testing because of him. Fighter's take a larger part of the purse because of him. What an absurd claim.Comment

Not even Jack Johnson? Joe Louis, was a big time war hero. Pacquiao is probably the biggest celebrity in his country and is trying to bring change to the nation. Floyd did change the sport, but he didn’t transcend it, his everything is the sport.Comment
