It's why I also don't rate Hopkins defenses as much as others because he has rematches on there that weren't necessary at all. I could only imagine the backlash Golovkin would've received had he rematched a guy he not already beat, but stopped. At least Golovkin's defenses were all against different guys.
Yeah fighting Allen 3 times was pointless, I’m pretty sure the IBF mandated it though and he obviously didn’t want to vacate the title he had held for a decade.

I give him a lot of credit for dominating Pascal in fight one, he essentially did what we all expected in fight two though. I think Pascal has never been the same following the first Kovalev beating although he’s pushed the clock back a few times recently against Browne and Jack.

Wonder if some of these posters would have given Hopkins **** for defending meaningless mandatories like they do other guys. But yeah Kov looked great in that first Pascal fight. Second one was pretty much a given. Can't help but admire what Pascal did against Browne and Jack. I was always kind of on the fence with Jean but that Browne fight in particular I really enjoyed seeing him win.

Kovalev actually has done enough to be considered for the hall after he retires.....GGG, not so much...he'd get in based on reputation, kos, less about resume and who he actually fought and beat

GGG because of the sheer number of defenses.

Though both got ducked shamelessly by supposed champions in their weight classes

Kov should've fought Adonis Stevenson and completely unified, and GGG should've fought Canelo before he was 35 years old and then got robbed when they did fight.

They're both going to the hall of fame, though.

GGG is first ballot. Kov 2nd

While I think Golovkin won both Alvarez fights and probably had the better career based on that, people are already forgetting just how good Kovalev looked before Ward came along. Or hell, how good Kovalev was in the first Ward fight, too. Dude crushed so many of the best LHWs like they were nothing.

He was a fantastic fighter for a few years there and arguably beat Andre Ward, who is probably the best fighter not named Mayweather or Pacquiao of the last ten years. Kovalev was brutalizing his versions of Jacobs or Derevyanchenko.

Kovalev the more highly regarded wins, Golovkin the longevity...

For me the Kovalev stretch from '13 to '16 was about as brutal and dominant a run as anything I've seen in recent years and trumps Golovkin's peak in terms of quality, but Kovalevs decline and fall was rapid and dramatic whereas Golovkin is still a top fighter albeit a diminished one.

It's what you like I guess, the the relentless professionalism and consistency or the mercurial ferocity that burned brighter but quicker...

Most of them probably didn’t follow boxing back then. Outside of the Middleweight tournament and the big money fight against Oscar his 160 run wasn’t all that impressive.

Like GGG, B-Hop didn’t get the big fights until he was in his late 30’s. Pretty sure he was 36 when he beat Trinidad.

I was never a Pascal fan until his recent resurgence. I always found him kind of annoying when he was fighting B-Hop, Dawson, Kovalev etc. But you have to respect his heart and determination. I thought he was completely DONE after the Kovalev rematch.

I just know they wouldn't be consistent with the criticisms. They're a predictable bunch. Hopkins was definitely an exception to the rule of aging fighters. Got to commend that level of discipline outside the ring.

I thought so too. Props to him for finding a second wind after those defeats.

Lean towards GGG. But Kov. Had more credible wins.

Its funny tho in their biggest fights they both unofficially won the first then got fcked up controversial rematches.

I change my mind ima go with Kov. GGG struggled in all his step up fights and was getting pieced up by 147 Kell Brook
