Thor Bjornnson vs Eddie Hall

That's two big boys right there, but they'll quickly find that power lifting and strongman competitions the same as fighting... if I'm any judge that mass of muscle is gonna be more a liability than anything, and ain't really gonna give you special power either. Guess it's gonna be more a charity / celeb kinda affair anyway though, doubt they'll be really looking to hurt each other.Comment

The real big one was in Game of Thrones if that's something you'd watch. Otherwise why would you? . Strongman stuff's probably even more niche than boxing. I only really know about em cos worlds strongest man ihas been on UK terrestrial TV in the UK every Xmas and New Year forever and watching it kinda got to be a bit of a tradtion.Comment

I dunno Thor very well, but, I know Eddie so I'm gonna back him like I have a reason to.
Eddie Hall's a cool guy anyway.Comment

These two have been going back and forth for weeks now. For context: Eddie set the deadlift record for 500k (around 1100 lbs) in 2016. And Hafthor, "The Mountain" from Game of Thrones", just broke the record today with a lift of 501kg. BUT -- Eddie did his lift in a competition, and Thor is doing it from his home gym. So everyone's asking: does a record count if it's done outside of competition?
The problem is Strongman as a sport doesn't have one unified governing body, so there's no single authority to turn to. And Strongman has multiple world-class events: the Arnold Classic, World's Strongest Man, Ultimate Strongman. Their situation is not unlike boxing - boxing's alphabet titles make determining who is "the greatest" a murky affair at best.
As far a s fight goes, I would watch. I haven't seen Thor punching, but Hall seems to do it pretty regularly for cardio and he doesn't look too terrible. Thor's strongman career is still in its peak right now though, and there's no way I see him risking unnecessary injury when he's got titles on the line. But an exhibition/charity event? Yeah, maybe.
Thor Bjornnson has lifted 501 kg and broke Eddie Hall's record, but he has not done it under the same conditions. Hall was away from home, in a unfamiliar environment to a certain extent 'All of these things are what test the mentality of athletes' so I can kind of see why Hall is annoyed.
I think that 500 kg dead-lift is what probably influenced Hall's decision to retire from strongman, as he was in quite bad way from the after effects 'He held that 500 kg for quite sometime, before he was instructed that it was a good lift'.
Added benefit for Hall is that he can solely focus on boxing, now that he is not competing in strongman.Comment
