It will always depend on the fight, and in many circumstances we won't know until the bell rings and we can see what the fighters look like.

Pacquiao-Cotto was fine. Cotto looked good as ever.

Ward-Dawson, while not quite a catchweight, was a bad example. Dawson was horrible and completely thrown off by the weight.

Mayweather-Alvarez was fine. Mayweather-Marquez would not have been, and Mayweather didn't even make it.

I hate them. There are plenty of weight divisions these days so theres no excuse. Canelos 155 days were a real low for me and his career development shows how easily he could make 160 and still be really strong. I hope its a thing of the past.

        - -Canelo blue on the scales.

At any rate, all fights today not in the heavies are catchweights.

Cotto was not fine, thats why Manny flat refused to fight him without one, even after beating him Manny refused to fight him again without another CW, and Manny knows why.

CWs depend on which way you going because it only has two effects, you will be stronger or weaker. If you go up in weight it will not hurt if you are fighting a guy of similar natural size.

You can see how CWS are so variable because fighters already fight with a 10-20lb swing from weigh-in to fight night weight, that alone opens the door for all sorts of weight differences.

Look at guys that move up many divisions, their fight night weight doesnt vary much at all, take Manny and JMM they were 142-146 fight night with a 130 weigh-in, for them fighting smaller JWWs and WWs is not far from where they always have been on fight night.

            - -What does U as a Fleawt know about catchwts?

Cotto could come in any wt he wanted, but he would forfeit the $300K bonus incentive for coming in 1 lb under what he fought Clottey at.

            What grade U in?

Always bad for the fighter going down in weight.

Cotto was absolutely fine in that ring, bottom line. He looked great. He was fighting really well until Manny timed him and rocked him. Then he was able to run the rest of the fight just fine.

The weight had no impact on that fight, no matter how much anyone whines about it.
