Nah, that was big news over here although matching Bruno's popularity is a tough ask for anyone.

OP does have a point, Lennox didn't really get any props Stateside until around the Tua fight when he was coming towards the end.

Lewis got hurt bad a couple of times before his knockout loss to McCall. His style was very sloppy with bad balance. Once Manny Steward started to train him he became a complete fighter. He almost fought everybody in the division. He earned the respect by winning.

Lewis v Rahman is how you avenge a loss. Fury stopping Wilder is how you avenge an injustice. That’s how you gain respect.

That said, AJ often gets too much flack, but I think people do it to counter the crazy fanboys. The likes of Sky don’t help when they put up polls of the greatest heavyweights ever and include AJ in the vote of about 6 names.
Lewis was far more experienced by the time he fought Rahman. A fairer comparison would be the McCall rematch, where he was cautious until McCall stopped fighting.

I agree with your point about the whole Sky propaganda machine, it does him no favours with boxing fans.

Us Joshua fans enjoy seeing sad fux hating on him. We are not blind, we all saw that this hate did not materialise until Joshua and his belts set his sights on Wilder and his. The moment he became a threat the hate started.

It appears to be the American way, to be pro something you need to be anti it's competition. Tells us Joshua was seen as a threat so this hate and baseless mud slinging BS is a form of praise.

Keep it up I say. Everytime they said Joshua wasn't relevant he bacame more relevant cuz they still talking about him. When they said Fury and Wilder had moved ahead of Joshua and left him behind who do you think the winner of their fight would be expected face. Joshua. They said they had left him behind yet their journey takes them to Joshua.

Hate away. There is what idiots try to tell us and then there is reality.

(was hard to find a good pic)

Lennox vs Bruno got ugly. On the one hand, Bruno was marketed from the start as a true blue Brit at a time when black people weren't readily accepted. It worked, but it distanced him from the black community.
Tim Witherspoon picked up on this when he fought Bruno in '86, as did Lennox when he called Bruno an Uncle Tom.

Race politics aside, the boxing people/press knew Lewis was damn good and took pride in the fact that he was kicking ass in America but he was never going to match Bruno's popularity, few fighters ever will.

                    It's true

If you are an American you instantly get respected as the best before beating anyone (wilder)

If you aren't you have to beat all the best fighters

I call it the Uncle Sam double standard
