There was a lotta fan buzz around Lucas but I dont think he got close to the same push Vic did promotionally despite probably being a better fighter. Similarly Brook was never hugely marketed despite being highly regarded by fans after the the Porter win.. besides I think Kells generally regarded as a top talent that was wasted or squandered rather than a dude who just wasn't anywhere near as good as sold.
I honestly feel when they were all up and coming they had crazy marketing hype around them. Brook was highly popular in the UK.

Nobody outside Wildier fans believed in him. While Ortiz had a whole Mexican American fan base labeling him the next Oscar or Vargas . Lucas was pushed as the next best thing and the favorite to beat Danny Garcia and got handed.

          Deontay was always fighting bums.

Brook was a very good fighter with a decent résumé, how's he on this list?

Definitely Ortiz. He was almost the new Golden Boy. People genuinely thought he was going to threaten Mayweather, which was insane.

Matthysse is next. There was more than a little talk about him moving up to dominate welterweight, and a lot of people (myself included) thought he'd destroy Danny Garcia.

Brook wasn't overhyped. He was a good champion, he was considered such, there's nothing unfair there.

Vic had huge marketing hype around him sure, but I didn't see it so much with Matthysse.. He was a big fan favourite so maybe you mean he was overrated rather than overhyped, I was one amongst many who was wowwed by the power, but Lucas remained a solid contender right up to retirement.

As for Brook, well Im from the UK and I don't recall Kell being hyped more than any of our other champions and certainly less so than Khan even though I consider him to be significantly better...

What can I say? We hype all our guys, that's just the way it is..

Agree with you on this one. But I will say brook has been overhyped recently though.

If he is I ain't seen much of it (if by recently you mean the last year or so)... in fact consensus seems to have been that old Kell will be pretty much a cherrypick for Bud, especially at 147. At 154 it's seen as a little better, but not much.
