    90s heavyweights are pretty overrated

The corpse of Foreman was one of main figures than. Holyfield went life and death with him, old Foreman stopped Moorer. Beat fringe contenders like Lou Savarese. Just imagine, if Foreman hadn`t been robbed against Briggs, he would have fought Lewis next. And if he had won..how embarassing would that be for Lewis?

When Wladimir Klitschko reached 39, he wasn`t good enough to beat Fury and Joshua, the new fighters any more.

I am pretty sure that 45 old Foreman wouldn`t be top contender now. he would be something like Chisora.

Comparing any version of George Foreman to freaking Dereck Chisora is absurdly disrespectful.

Most people on here have sen like Holyfield v Bowe and a few Tyson fights and pretend they are experts on the 90's heavyweight division

The truth is, at the time people were calling the 90's division trash, Lewis was seen as a glass jawed Brit, the big fights took years to make (that's not a new thing), all the top guys were supposedly ducking each other and recreational drug abuse was rife through the division with many contenders being legitimate crack head drug addicts.

It wasn't until the very end of that era that Lewis got any respect from the American establishment as they tried to hype bowe up the entire time before finally giving in as Lewis retired and admitting he was the best. I remember that era very well and it's repeating itself now

Everyone tends to overrate the past. Having said that, the 90's boxers were, collectively, much better than today.

The 90's was an era where crack heads became top rated contenders, that's a true fact

The heavyweight division has been weak, since the 90's.

TS - the fact that Foreman was able to compete is a testament to how strong the 70s were and what an unbelievable fighter Ali was for example, it doesnt reflect badly on the 90's.

The 90s heavyweight scene was the 2nd best in my opinion. We still haven't had fighters at the level of a prime holyfield, bowe, Lewis imho. Although there are some good fighters in the current crop.

Earl - yes I think it was because the 90s scene was a bit in the shadow of the 70s. But as usual you go off on a bit of a tangent about drug use. That sort of thing still goes on with star athletes today, its neither here nor there. Fact is you had some great fighters, some good ones, and enough solid ones who could cause an upset on their day.

Yes Lewis was ignored, but that was mainly due to not having had the fights. Once he beat holyfield (albeit over the hill) knocked Tyson out as well as the longevity...he was widely regarded as one of the greats and the best of his era.

For sure. Andy Ruiz would have been a unified champ in the 90's
