Is it possible that Derevyanchenko would’ve beaten GGG in 2018 replacing Vanes?

This would’ve derailed the Canelo series innit?

He chose to get stripped in not fighting Derevyanchenko because Loeffler and Oscar were afraid that Haymon and DiBella would’ve stole Canelo’s win (GGG’s IBF and other titles) the way Ruiz did to AJ?

Or rather, unifications trump mandos. Why didn’t GGG fight BJS for Undisputed when he had the belt but decided to give it to the Jacobs vs Devry vacancy?

So, why does GGG need 2 fights, do his “mando” with Szeremeta when UNIFICATIONS trump mandos and not unify with Canelo’s Super WBA? Does GGG think he can beat Canelo in another year’s time, having another fight after Szeremeta before seeing Canelo? What are the real stipulations in GGG’s contract for fulfillment?

That is a very good question. However, unless Derevyanchenko would have knocked him out, there was he would have defeated GGG on the scorecards and left that ring a winner. It was just too much money at stake for the Canelo rematch.

let me start by saying yes ggg should have fought derv instead of vanes for the sake of boxing but there were clear reasons as to why he didnt. main one being money. he only made 1 million for that fight because hbo didnt have any money to spend so that would have been way below all his other purses for fighting guys like lemiuex, jacobs, wade, etc...you can blame hbo more than anyone for allowing the fight to happen but do you really expect ggg to fight a good fighter for so little? and because he did nothing wrong? if a golovkin-derv fight was negotiated under any other circumstances ggg would have made much more. for example he made 15 million when he fought him the next year. boxing is a business...cept when its not.

I think GGG has been scared of derechenko this whole time that’s why he shamelessly fought Vanes instead but let’s not forget Canelo gave dchenko the blueprint to beating GGG so without the 2nd Canelo/GGG fight Dchenko woulda had absolutely no clue on how to beat Golovkin.

derv always fights that way though so its not like he did anything different. yeah he's usually using pull counters and step away hooks

Derevyanchenko wouldn't have commanded a huge payday. It's not like he was much of a name back then (or even now for that matter.)

Instead Golovkin dragged a guy up from 154 lbs who hadn't fought in 2 years and who lost to Erislandy Lara in his last fight...the same Lara who Abel Sanchez said hadn't done anything to earn a shot at GGG.

so because canelo popped dirty ggg is expected to fight derv for less than half of what he would normally get for any other fight? hbo only approved vanes because of the circumstances. this was not a normal fight with normal approved opponents/purses etc...so not sure why you are treating it like one. if wilder and fury were set to fight again and fury popped 10 days before the fight...oh wlder now has to fight his mandatory dillian whyte and pbc is only offering 1 million dollars. DUCK DUCK DUCK right?

Derevyanchenko was the IBF mandatory and could have commanded a 35-percent purse split. He used that to his advantage in the Canelo negotiations and asked for $7 million to avoid purse bid.

So he actually would have commanded a huge payday.
