Yeah, I think some greats of the past probably wouldn't get super far these days because the ref would be getting in their way. It's a shame.

refs are human tho, and therefore not perfectly consistent. I'll never forget kenny B's performance in the maidana floyd fight, seperating the two before they even touched each other lol.
I agree. The two extremes we usually see are when refs break up the action as soon as the fighters get close and we've also seen refs allow holding and hitting. Both situations shouldn't happen.

Lol at Kenny B. It's almost like he doesn't even try to be subtle.

Yeah, a James Toney-style fighter should be allowed to work on the inside.

Roberto Duran had a killer inside game as well.

That needs to be a part of the sport.

Some fighters take five punches just to get in there and then your not gonna let the guy work
            C’mon
The ref is actually taking bread out of the fighters mouth

Imagine the James Toney fight against Jirov
Not much of a fight if the ref would not have allowed those guys to fight on the inside

That's what pisses me off. The strategy of some fighters is to fight from outside, keeping opponents at the end of their 1-2 and left hook.

                It's a very effective plan.

So if the opponent manages to cross that minefield and gets inside then let him work. It's unfair to break them apart right away and send him back out again to do it all over.

Oh man. That would have killed that fight. Speaking of which, I think I'll rewatch that later. talk about two warriors not giving an inch. One of the best I've seen honestly. And they genuinely did not like each other. No love loss. Haha. Love it! (Irony)

I'd prefer it if they just said, "Punch and get out." It would make for better fights and we would have more inside fighting which the sport badly needs in my opinion. Thoughts?
Try matching Ward against Hopkins and see if those two can unclamp themselves from each other lol. I'd love that fight to have been made.
