Should Refs Just Say Punch and Get Out Instead of Separating Fighters?

I don't see many referees do this anymore. I think they need to get back to this. We need officiating in the ring obviously but over-officiating really can ruin a fight. I'd prefer it if they just said, "Punch and get out." It would make for better fights and we would have more inside fighting which the sport badly needs in my opinion. Thoughts?

the refs pretend not to know the rules to help cheating fighters like ward. the guy is clamping his opponents arm and hitting him with his other arm.

real inside fighting like corrales castillo would be great but most fighters dont want to do that type of fight. they would rather wrestle and hold and hit

if the two fighters are not completely tangled up, or one guy is getting pushed down then ideally yes the ref should call for them to punch out.

refs are human tho, and therefore not perfectly consistent. I'll never forget kenny B's performance in the maidana floyd fight, seperating the two before they even touched each other lol.

        Yeah, that was definitely extreme.

Yeah one of his worst performances. He probably saw Weeks under officiate Maidanas rough tactics in fight 1, so he took it to the extreme. Would break up the action for no reason and Floyd’s holding was beyond excessive.

I think this kind of stuff ruins fights. If Floyd is the better fighter, which I'm sure most feel he is, then why the need to intervene so much? Let them fight it out. It's very simple.

A lot of times an infighter will work and work to close the distance so that he can get inside and punch from there.

But then the ref breaks them up and pushes them apart right away. Meaning the inside fighter has to start all over again.

So they need to let them work in the clinch more. That way outboxers don't have an unfair advantage over infighters.

Yes, I admire referees who allow infighting. I don't like refs who break the fighters up to soon. This typically favors the boxer type of fighters as opposed to the slugger type of fighters.

Obviously punching out of the clinch is ideal, but typically when the clinch is that big a problem it's because fighters don't want to fight out of the clinch. For example, I rewatched Holyfield-Tyson 1 two days ago and you can see how frustrating it was for the ref, because he's shouting at them the entire time to fight out of the clinch, and neither man wants to.

I do wish refs were consistent about making fighters fight out of the clinch. If a fighter has no intention at all of throwing a punch, then they should be warned and eventually penalized for clinching. It's so frustrating to see two fighters just sit there leaning on each other with no intention of throwing a punch, and it's just as bad when refs won't even let two fighters near each other, like the Floyd-Maidana rematch.

                    Yeah, I agree.

I think as the ref, I'd just say punch and get out. If the two guys kept holding each other, I'd still just sit back. **** it. Haha. The fans will be booing the fighters, really, because they're not fighting- not the ref. I would applaud the ref in such a situation.
