Just rewatched both ggg vs canelo fights

When it happened, people acknowledged it was an either way fight.

Over time, it has somehow turned into Alvarez obviously clearly winning. It's ****ing ******.

Cognitive dissonance, man. There's been two parallel narratives:

1) Alvarez is a superlative living legend.

2) Golovkin is a hypejob and little better than average.

Now clearly these two trains of thought aren't compatible with the objective reality of an extremely close fight, so those who professed both beliefs had to find some way of re-interpreting reality in such a way that both ideas could remain plausible.

That said, I'm being a little unfair, there are a number of dudes whose opinions I respect and who ain't Canelo fans at all who still saw it fairly clear to Canelo so I wouldn't want to overgeneralise.

stopped reading here. what does your first comment even detail in regards to my posts/conversation? all elite level fighters can adapt. as proven, just another tangent to compare GGG to Ali, Robinson, Leonard, Floyd when the conversation was about compubox and innacuracy. Give me a fight where Floyd, Leonard, Robinson, Ali simply just threw jabs against their hardest challenges and then missing with the worst compubox performance?

And to be clear, I saw it close but clear for Golovkin, so I'm not being pissy about people who saw it clear for Alvarez. Thing is, when the widespread public opinion about the fight is so divided, saying it was obviously clear is just wrong. It was not a clear fight either way, and that is indisputable based on the scores that are out there.

Man that must have been a great experience watching it in the arena. That adelaide Byrd card the 118 one was disgraceful reminded me of the draw card against mayweather just nonsensical. And I agree about the second fight. I think ggg has declined somewhat as evidenced in the derev fight. Its only natural for someone his age and with that style so maybe canelo will get a indisputable win this time round if the third fight materialises.

Yeah GGG definitely seems to have declined, it’s such a shame he never got these career defining fights in his prime. I think Canelo finally gets a clear win in the 3rd fight. I still think it’ll be competitive but I’ve got Canelo winning 8-4’ish- so probably gonna be 120-108 Canelo on at least one card...😂

I think Golovkin and Sanchez should have known for both fights, but especially for the second fight, that Golovkin was not going to win a fight that went to the judges. It was a tall order but Golovkin needed to stop Alvarez, and should have known it.

I never once said Canelo beat GGG in the first fight. I have always said, more than anyone, that the DRAW was justified because it takes 3 judges. If Byrd had it any combination for Canelo winning or had it DRAW, the fight would still be a DRAW.

At the end of the day people would still debate over it. The FACT is both men were standing strong, and Canelo proved himself in the ring in the first fight. Another fact is that I enjoyed seeing Canelo switch it up with his own footwork I never seen before and his legacy defining rope'a'dope. Those sequences of defense are forever in the books, and as Canelo keeps on winning his throwback fights only get better since we trust Ring IQ being proven.

If GGG fans feel his amateur pedigree along with Olympic merit and pro ring experience was good enough for benefit of doubt with that Canelo 1 compubox then that's on them. I have higher standards.

One broadcast I watched had the announcers wondering why he was doing it. He clearly did better when his back was off the ropes. His corner knew that and that's one reason he had to change up his style for the rematch.
