I suspect getting badly staggered by Smith caused Bivol to reassess his ambition at 175. He fought a terrible mismatch in his next fight, reportedly approached Badou Jack coming off back to back losses a couple months ago, and is now talking about cashing out at 168.

Yep, Bivol has what it takes to beat Canelo but he severly lacks one thing. Bivol must be "old or past his prime" to fight with Canelo. At 28, he is remarkably INcapable of landing a fight with Canelo

Beterbiev vs Gvozdyk unification were in talks in Q2 2019. Bivol's fight against Joe Smith Jr. was already in play since Q4 2018. At the same time DLH was making headlines about Canelo wanting Kovalev. This was all Q2. Then news broke out about DAZN/Oscar/Canelo miscommunications about contracts/stipulations. Canelo got a legal team. This was all talked about on NSB/industry. Then in August Gvozdyk vs Beterbiev was finalized for Unification. At the same time GBP was trying to give Yarde/Warren step asides. All fight were booked throughout 2019 by rival networks and promotional companies. DAZN had also ONLY approved GGG or Kovalev. Canelo had no choice. Also Bivol was busy with his matchmaking for Lenin Castillo....
