Fantasy matchups at each weight division.

I’ve tried to put together guys who fought within 10-20 years of each other as I think it’s hard to picture a guy from the 2010’s fighting a guy from the 50’s. It’s not necessarily the best two fighters to fight at the weight it’s just matchups that I feel would have been interesting or exciting etc etc.

    Heavyweight:
Muhammad Ali vs Mike Tyson. Arguably the two most infamous names in boxing history.
    Pick: Ali by KO.

    Cruiserweight:
    Holyfield vs Usyk.
    Pick: Holyfield by Decision.

    Light Heavyweight:
Roy Jones Jr vs Michael Spinks.
    Pick: Jones by UD.

    Super Middleweight:
    James Toney vs Andre Ward.
    Pick: Ward by SD.

    Middleweight:
    Monzon vs Hagler.
    Pick Monzon by MD.

    Light Middleweight:
    Hearns vs McCallum.
    Pick: Hearns by Decision.

    Welterweight:
    Ray Robinson vs Ray Leonard.
    Pick: SRR by Decision.

    Light Welterweight:
    Aaron Pryor vs Kostya Tszyu.
    Pick: Pryor by KO.

    Lightweight:
Roberto Duran vs Julio Cesar Chavez.
    Pick: Duran by UD.

    Super Featherweight:
Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Vasyl Lomachenko.
    Pick: Mayweather by SD.

    Featherweight:
    Manny Pacquiao vs Naseem Hamed.
    Pick: Pacquiao via KO.

    Super Bantamweight:
    Wilfredo Gomez vs Erik Morales.
    Pick: Gomez late stoppage.

    Bantamweight.
    Ruben Olivares vs Manuel Ortiz.
    Pick: Ortiz via decision.

    Super Flyweight:
    Vic Darchinyan vs Sor Rungvisai.
    Pick: SSR by stoppage.

    Flyweight:
Miguel Canto vs Juan Francisco Estrada.
    Pick: Canto UD.

    Light Fly and Minimumweight:
    Finito Lopez vs Chocolatito Gonzalez.
    Pick: Roman Gonzalez by SD.

Yeah that's exactly how I see it, Hagler wouldn't go down, but Monzon would force his way through

It would be an attritional battle for sure. I just favour Monzon due to his physical advantages which I think would take their toll down the stretch.

Duran Chavez I would love to see. Duran I think would edge him. It would be one heck of a fight.

Post your own thoughts and picks on these matchups...
When I read the thread title, James Toney immediately popped into my head. But I had Toney vs Tyson in mind. Tyson's fierce offense and explosiveness against Toney's subtle defensive maneuvers and counter-punching...what an ******ic fight that would be.

Surprised to see you pick Ward over Toney. Toney nullifies all of the things that Ward does well and eats him up on the inside. Outstanding match-up though. Ward would have to box like he did against Abraham and try to keep it at bay, and James Toney ain't no Arthur Abraham.

Good match-ups you suggested. Here's who I like:

                "Prime" Tyson KO's Ali
                Holyfield late TKO over Usyk
                RJJ KO over Spinks
                Toney decision over Ward
                Hagler decision over Monzon
                McCallum KO over Hearns
                Leonard decision over Robinson
                Pryor decision over Tszyu
                Duran decision over JCC
                Mayweather decision over Lomachenko
                Pacquio KO over Hamed
                Morales KO over Gomez
                Olivares decision over Ortiz
Darchinyan KO over Sor Rungvisai (this was a bad MF and prime Darchinyan at superfly. Sor is made to order against the Darchinyan that schooled Arce and Mijares.)
                Canto decision over Estrada

Lopez vs Choco? What a f.ucking fight! I think Finito blasts him out at some point in an amazing fight. Finito was one of the best to ever do it. Classic Romanza style!

                  Interesting picks man.

I’d probably take Toney over Tyson. I’m not convinced that even a ferocious prime Tyson could crack that chin and defence. I think Toney eventually breaks him down in an attritional battle between elite offence and defence. Good matchup...

I just think Ward was an out and out winner. I think he’d adapt and adjust and find away to out-manoeuvre Toney in a highly technical affair. I wouldn’t be surprised if it went the other way though, I think that’s a real toss up, I could imagine it being the type of fight that has a lot of swing rounds.

Finito and Chocolatito are two of my all time favourites, just technical wizards who make elite level fighting look so easy. I’ve always felt Roman’s consistent rhythmic pressure would edge him a decision but again hard to argue against it going the other way based on Lopez’s ostensibly flawless career. Shame they missed each other by about a decade.

Nice break downs, I think all of these fights are 50-50 and very intriguing, but you mentioned some of my favorite guys! So I'm a bit biased in some of my picks. I wouldn't pick any one man to win 9 times out of 10 in these match-ups, that's for sure.

I just texted my dad and asked his pick on Finito vs Choco and he was like "I don't think i know who Lopez is"...I'm like WHAT!? You were the one that told me to watch his fights lol. He didn't know Finito was his nickname. He likes Lopez over Choco "probably by KO" as well.
