Floyd pick every opponent at the right time. That's why so many people around the world calling him a coward and he was happy to call himself a rich coward.

Unless it was signed before and they were assuming Mosley would win, I remember a lot of peopled favoured Berto though who has being hyped as a Mayweather clone at the time.
It was. Floyd got hurt that Mosley came into the ring after the Marquez fight and challenged him. He said he wouldn’t fight Shane so Mosley booked a fight with Berto. Andre Berto pulled out of the fight due time his family being caught up in a hurricane in his home country. After the initial Floyd/PAC negotiations fell through Mosley got the fight.
I have always believed Berto got some step aside money and was promised a Floyd fight later, which he ended up gettin 2015. Just my theory.

He was a solid favorite at -450, but definitely wouldn't say heavy favorite. And by the time of the fight, the odds dropped to like -300 or -350.

As for the OP, the opponent was fine. He had been off for a bit and JMM was someone who had also fought Pacquiao and it was another common opponent for both, so it worked. When the announcement was made, it was right before Pacquiao vs Hatton. So both would have had two common opponents apiece.

            Mayweather agreed to 50-50 split.

            There’s plenty of sources

Manny Pacquiao signed a contract to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in boxing's biggest fight on March 13, a source with knowledge of the meeting told ESPN.com on Friday night.

“The camps agreed to a 50-50 split of the money, which could be gargantuan. Many experts expect the fight to eclipse the all-time pay-per-view record for sales, which is the 2.44 million buys generated by Mayweather's 2007 victory against Oscar De La Hoya.“

“A contract sent on Dec. 11, 2009, by Golden Boy Promotions on behalf of Mayweather to Top Rank on behalf of Pacquiao proposed a 50-50 financial split between the sides for a fight that would have been held March 13, 2010”

“Pacquiao and Mayweather agree on 50-50 split“

And I am talking about the first negotiations of 2009-2010, that fell apart. The 2015 negotiations obviously didn’t fall apart. So that’s not the negotiations i’m citing. Obviously.

Look what Marquez did to Pac at 147 or the trouble he gave Pac and Bradley at 147 in other fights.

Garcia just beat Jessie Vargas at 147 which is a solid win but I do agree he is simply too small for 147.
I also give Floyd some credit for being the only person to beat JMM so bad that even Marquez thought he lost, although the catchweight chicanery will always be lame

Miguel Cotto at the time would have been an excellent opponent. If I didn't suspect that Margarito was cheating with the wraps even then, he would be my top choice.

Hahaha yeah Marquez never agreed with a decision that didn’t go his way.

Floyd was flawless that night, I tend to believe that great fighters don’t show ring rust.

He’d just been destroyed by Mosley. I’d have liked to seen that fight in 06-08 but not after that Mosley beating tbh.
