    Mayweather Return Opponent

was thinking about Mayweather/JMM and I recall people were 50/50 on the fight (myself included) on if they liked it or not. Marquez was coming up in weight, but it did also give Floyd a common opponent with Pac, not to mention Floyd hadn't been in the ring for a couple years.

So my question is, who did you want Floyd to face at the time, if you were against him fighting Marquez?

It wasnt a 50-50 in the bookies. Floyd was a heavy favorite coming into the fight.

Oh I know that. I should have chose better wording. I meant a lot of us were "ehhh" on the opponent.

I think a lot of people preferred Mosley, but he did sign to fight Mosley almost immediately, in December 2009 for May 2010.

Also a lot of people wanted him to fight Pacquiao. Negotiations started after Mayweather beat Mosley. Mayweather agreed to 50-50 split, asked for random blood tests, negotiations fell apart after that.

Mayweather-JMM was more like 80-20 in favor of people not wanting to see the fight. Mayweather got a lot of credit after the fact though, after JMM had two good performances at WW vs Pacquiao. I also felt JMM fought to a draw vs Bradley.

I think I like most just wanted to see Floyd vs Manny back then comeback or not so that woulda been my #1 choice. Fighting JMM seemed fine to me at the time all things considered doe.

agreed that in hindsight it looks a lot better than it did at the time. I remember being mad that we never got Mayweather/ODLH2 but dont remember who i wanted at the time.

Although I wasn't jumping up and down for the fight, I didn't mind it as it was his first fight back in a couple years. The problem I had with it is when he signed for a catchweight fight then cheated Marquez on the scales, that's some sucka crap. Marquez wouldn't have beaten him anyway cause Floyd is just better but that still doesn't excuse it

Bad idea the first time. Worse now.

Floyd wouldve been a heavy favorite fighting almost anyone...including Shane Mosley who he fought immediately afterward

Floyd never agreed to 50-50. In the end, in 2015, he got his blood testing and the purse split was 60-40 or something like this.
