  • Comments Thread For: Luis Ortiz Eyes July Return, Having Trouble Finding Opponent

Heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz still has nothing on the horizon. He knows he's coming back in July, but he doesn't know his opponent's name. Because of that, his coach Germn Caicedo keeps him ready, waiting for someone willing to take a look at King Kong. Caicedo has seen how Ortiz evolved over time to become a big risk - despite his two knockout losses to Deontay Wilder. At the moment, nobody is running to face the dangerous Cuban.

He should have no issue finding a top opponent. After all, he’s old, a name and a cherrypick.

If he was a cherrrypick then someone would have "picked" him by now.

It was a sarcastic post. Ortiz is dangerous but a certain group likes to put him down in order to belittle Wilder’s resume.

I dont think ortiz is as avoided as they make it out to be . They should fight helenius he never backs down from a challenge and is ranked now . I think team ortiz is waiting for the right fights that are significant and all the other top guys are dialed in for spring/ summer their schedules dont match up .

The only real weakness Ortiz has is that he sometimes gets knocked out when you strike him with legendary power ha. Coming off a loss, I can see why he has trouble finding an opponent. Nothing Wilder did can be replicated so you have to look for signs of weakness elsewhere and there are none. He’s an old, dangerous fighter and will likely be avoided by the top guys until he retires.

I think there are alot of reasons for him having problems getting opponents and some are his fault and some are circumstances. He's essentially a PBC fighter and they have prospects not ready to fight him, journeymen (some of whom he's already fought), and their top guys aren't ready or willing (Ruiz, Kownacki, Wilder).

Ortiz is a big, solid southpaw technician. I have no doubt he's dangerous but what are his marquee wins? Bryant Jennings? Anyone else? His two losses are to Wilder but Wilder just lost himself.

He could have taken the AJ fight and he could very well have won. Now as it stands, he's high risk and relatively low reward. And we don't know what kind of purse can be generated for his fights...
