Comments Thread For: Eleider Alvarez-Joe Smith Eliminator Ordered After Gilberto Ramirez Bails

Joe Smith, Jr., come on down-and make sure to thank Gilberto Ramirez on his way out. Plans for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) to fill its vacancy atop the light heavyweight division hit an expected speed bump, as Mexico's Ramirez (40-0, 26KOs) will no longer participate in the sanctioning body's ordered four-man box-off. The sanctioning body informed BoxingScene.com on Wednesday that Ramirez, a former super middleweight titlist has been removed from the tournament as a result of his failure to comply with the terms for his ordered semifinal title eliminator versus former 175-pound champ Eleider Alvarez.

No surprise here. Alvarez is of a higher caliber of fighter than Ramirez is used to seeing. He definitely ain't want none of him after that Seals KO.

This kind of blatant ducking of tough competition is not what boxing needs.

YES this was a fight I was hoping for but it seemed unlikely when the WBO started meddling, stinks its not for the title but an eliminator is better then nothing

Stop trying to make Zurdo look like he doesn't want to fight when it is well known that he is trying to get out of his deal

Zurdo is a ****ing idiot. I honestly cant stress itenough.
I predict he'll sign with haymon just to be sacrificed to a bigger black fighter.

Can't make comments on Zurdo not participating since I'm part of it is because he doesn't want to fight under the Top Rank banner anymore.

The Alvarez would be tough. Eleider should outbox Smith provided he doesn't get caught by Joe's power shots. Joe isn't the smoothest technician but he's pulverized some names on his resume, and he rocked Bivol pretty good in a fight he lost.

I've seen Vlasov fight a few times, he's a durable guy with ok boxing skills. I remember him losing to Chilemba and Glowacki. Don't know about the 4th guy in this box-off though.

Just happy to know that Eleider will have an opportunity to get back his belt
                    Very well deserved
And a fight with Smith Jr should be a great scrap
I like Smith but pulling for Alvarez
