Wilders padded record hurt him in the end

As I've said repeatedly the last 10 years, all those cream puffs did nothing for him.

If he had been fighting actual decent operators, he would have taken a humbling "L" years ago

The plus side would have been that he wouldn't have been 34 when reality hit.

He would have been better off losing when he was younger and giving himself more time to try and learn, you know.... How to box.

Well it hasn't hurt him. He got a 40-0 record because of it. He would always lose to fury anyway. His record is padded but when he stepped up he still won. Stiverne could have beat him but didn't. Ortiz was a step up and couldn't beat him.
Noone is going to say Wilder is one of the greatest ever heavyweights though but hardest hitter. Foreman beat Lyle and Cooney, other hard hitters who might not go down as greats.

Good point here. The problem I see is the division isn't exactly stacked with huge opposition. Wilder has a distinct advantage against most with his reach hand speed and long legs. He takes a step and quick 1-2 combo in a fraction of a second. Furys size and mental mind games beat him before the fight started. I think he was intimidated by that combination of things and beat before he got in the ring. Fury isn't the first person to walk to Wilder he just so happens a to have the style size and skill set to have made it work

But look at the resumes of Stiverne and Ortiz when they had fought Wilder.

Stiverne himself had never beaten a top 10 fighter when he fought Wilder. Ortiz has beaten 1. I said in the build up to the first Wilder-Ortiz fight that it’s in many ways a battle of 2 unknown quan****** cause they had both been knocking out severely overmatched opponents.

Are we still buying into this hardest hitter crap?

Tyson fought and knocked out better opposition than Wilder by the time he was 20.

Yeah this stands for a lot of pbc fighters. They look lost when they finally step up competition late in their careers

A young Shannon Briggs would be 41(40) against Wilders opposition and that's just one example.

If he'd started fighting top opponents earlier he'd have been a journeyman for years by now. In a way its impressive how long they were able to stall and keep up the smoke and mirrors for so long. The guy was on his 7th title defence and 3rd year as champion before he had to defend against an actual top HW for ****s sake. Its unbelievable.
