  • Is Fury the best "Rise to the Occasion" fighter of all time?

Before the Klitschko fight Fury hadn't really shown much in his career to date that he would be able to handle Klitschko's experience and power. He was a 5-1 dog and ended up outboxing Klitschko in a shut out.

Fast forward 3 years and nothing in the 2 tune ups Fury had suggested that he was ready for Wilder. Again practically a shutout when you take out the 2 knockdowns.

And for the rematch no one expected it to be a one sided beating the way it did. He again showed us something that we'd never seen before in his career. He turned into a power punching monster overnight.

Even though I picked Fury in all 3 of these fights I acknowledge that there was no real evidence that I was basing it on. I just like Fury as a personality and hoped that he had that special something in him to be a great fighter and he proved me right.

Agreed. Im only supporting him because he’s funny, a great character and his self belief is second to none.
He talks a lot smarter than a lot of guys in boxing too. I enjoy his interviews a lot.
I rooted for him in the first fight eventhough im scared every minute for him because i wanted to see a comeback from whatever demons he had.

He looked shlt against the seferis and pianetas of the world and wallins that’s why many were counting him out on the second one... but i keep on arguing to his haters here that we also said the same thing prior to the 1st wilder fight and he still outboxed wilder with ease.
So basing his performance to his previous poor performances is really not the way to go with fury.
    Nor with his physique.

      Ali or SRL?

I'm still in awe of this performance but have to keep reminding myself that I've been calling Wilder a manufactured champion for years.

Fury was right when he said that if he'd lost to Wilder he would have been a bum.

He just beat the worst long reigning champion of all time.

It is amazing how absolutely no one called it. It will go down in history as the one no one called.

And you can’t say what you said about Fury being the best rise to the occasion fighter. You’re essentially calling him the greatest fighter of all time.

No that would be Ali, but Fury has that about him. Manny Steward called this in 2012, absolutely amazing boxing mind that Steward had

The thing about Ali is though, in the fights where he "rose to the occasion" he wasn't dominant like Fury was, in fact he got battered in some of those fights. Fury rose several levels above what everyone expected of him in his big fights. I admit that Ali's competition was also levels above Fury's though so I understand your point.

Uh, no, he has a draw and Rocky don't. He's usually ahead on his score cards and Marciano wasn't. Tyson may not be favored by odds makers often, but, neither was Marciano.

I could be wrong on that last one....Ty was not favored for Wlad or Wilder was he? Either way, makes no difference, Marciano wasn't favored, was not ahead on points, was not supposed to win, did not get the memo and went on KO'ing fools anyway.

What're going to say about Marciano? But him fought oldens? So did Tyson. His peer group wins are not so highly skilled? Tyson's best peer group win is Wilder. It proves Tyson's got chin and that's like all it proves.

No I'm not just a bitter Wilder hater. I said the same **** when they fought the first. A draw, Marciano knows nothing about a draw. Always found that W.

I've said it since the first Fury fight I watched. He fights to the level of his opposition. Most fights out of the 31 have been inferior to him. Although he managed a win against Wlad and a draw against Wilder the first time. He found the kryptonite so to speak in Wilder 2 but saying he's the best " rise to the occasion fighter ever " is extremely far fetched cause let's be honest there's not been huge amount of competition. Pure respect for Fury talent and entertainment wise. He can do big things with a good dance partner.

Fury won the first fight in the eyes of most, despite only being 50% fit and having to lose 10 stone and beating a drug and alcohol addiction.

Nobody beats this version of Tyson, and he'd have smashed the midget Marciano into little bits.
