Thinking abstractly is it fair for one fighter to have a 40 lbs weight advantage?

    I agree. It "dont help".

Wilders biggest advantage in all of his fights is his wingspan and speed. And he added almost 20 pounds which nullified speed and stamina.

Good strategy. That's sarcasm. It was an awful strategy but Wilder has never had much sense is his entire cab-beating career

If you are a heavyweight you must fight any man of any weight if you want to become the champion. It is fair and it is the way things are. There are boxers fighting today who weigh 100 pounds more than Fury and if they earn a title shot he will fight them. Jack Dempsey weighed 180 when he almost killed the heavyweight champion Willard who weighed 255 pounds. Joe Louis at 200 pounds damn near killed 260 pounds of solid muscle ex champ Carnera. If a boxer today can't make the 200 pound cruiserweight limit then he fights as a heavyweight. There is no weight limit for heavyweights nor should there be. A boxer could weigh 500 pounds and he is allowed to fight and Butterbean did weigh 410 pounds and old Larry Holmes beat the hell out of him weighing about 220.Forty pounds difference between the fighters is no big deal at heavyweight. There have been many thousands of fights with that much difference and lots with twice that much difference and the lighter men often win.

We also need to remember the vast difference in size between David Haye and Valuev. Nobody complained then.

Being bigger doesn't guarantee you'll win and it only helps if you're skilled in the first place.

There's already twice as many divisions as there should be.

Having so many divisions makes it easier for fighters to duck fights because it's easier to move between divisions. When you add in all the catch-weight fights it gets ridiculous.

Wilder was 214 when he stopped Ortiz in their first fight, and 212 when he almost knocked out Tyson Fury. Wilder once spoke about dropping down to Cruiserweight, that may be his best option

Why wasn't it an issue in the first fight but is now?

I have Called for a Super Heavyweight Division for years going back to when Holyfield lost (was robbed) vs Valuev who was what 7'1 330 lbs?

With that being said, to bring this up now after Wilder got Mauled by Fury looks weak, absolutely NOTHING is stopping Wilder from Bulking up himself. He should try to come in 240 or something forget stamina and worrying about going the distance he has to come in Big and Ready to get Physical back with Fury. Fury so versatile that just when he prepares for that version of Fury last night, Fury will come in Lighter and Ready to Move all Night so he is just a tough match up for ALL of the Heavyweight Divisions because of Versatility and Unpredictability

I mean, it's not anywhere near unheard of and ultimately weight isn't what wins heavyweight fights. Wilder didn't lose because he was undersized.

People make a big deal out of smaller weight differences at lower weights because those pounds make a bigger difference at lower weights.

Wilder could make 205 if he can't hang with the big boys them to down in weight. Either way he needs to learn how to box. That right hand won't save him everytime.
