Thinking abstractly is it fair for one fighter to have a 40 lbs weight advantage?

Boxing sometimes gets criticized for having too many weight classes and with fighters weighing only 7 lbs more having to fight at different classes, yet at the Heavyweight level you can have a 40 lbs weight difference between fighters.

Tyson Fury looked like a man several weight classes above Deontay.

I'm not sure a 273 lbs man fighting a 230 lbs man is any more fair than 215 lbs man fighting a 175 lbs man?

That's the HW division for you. Don't like it? Fight at Cruiserweight, or find an easier sport.

I mean, what can they possibly do about it if you think about it? Lol adding 7 pound increment weight classes after 200 pounds is messy and over doing it

I get your point but the thing is no one showed this concern until the fight was over....... after Fury came in at 273 no one expressed concern for Wilder, we all thought the added weight would make it an easier task for Wilder.

The issue with Fury was that he was bigger and BETTER.

Wilder gave up 35 pounds against Breazeale and had no problem, being a bigger or heavier HW means zilch if you haven't got the skills.

              100% this.

Why is this an issue now after all these years?

It's unfair only when Wilder loses boohoo. So many greats fought opponents much bigger and heavier than them, that's the nature of the weight.

David Haye out pointed and rocked Valuev who out weighed him by like 90lbs......was a close fight admittedly though

Buster Mathis had a 40 pound advantage on Joe Frazier and lost.
Valuev had a 99 pound advantage over Haye and lost.

It's always been this way. And it's why it's the most loved division worldwide.
