  • Who will be talked about more in 100 years? Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao?

I was watching Troy last night and Achilles told Hector that they'll be talking about this war for a thousand years. Hector then told him in a thousand years, the dust from their bones would be long gone.

Achilles then told him yes, but our names will remain.

Just thought it was funny because Jack Johnson fought over a 100 years ago and we still talk about him, yet there are a lot of boxers that fought Jack that we rarely bring up.

In 100 years, who do you think people will talk about more when the subject of boxing comes up?

Pacquiao. For one thing, someone will surpass 50-0 and probably with a more impressive resume. When fans look back on boxing they will look at highlight videos. Plenty of exciting videos to choose from for Manny, not so many for Floyd. No one is going to look back and remember the guy who chose to do just enough to win by UD.

Of course there will be fringe casuals who think Mayweather, same way there are fringe casuals who think Rocky Marciano was the greatest HW or fighter of all time because he went 49-0. If there are in fact any boxing fans in 100 years (I think the sport will be long banned before then) they'll want to see a real fighter who took on bigger challenges. That would be Pacquiao.

I think probably Manny for obvious reasons - but they are both one offs and Floyd's defensive skills and his ability to disarm fighters is incredibly unique

Since you brought up Jack Johnson lets have an honest conversation. More people talk about Jack Johnson because he was the one that everyone hated. Why was he hated? Because the guys everyone loved couldn't beat the menacing black guy that talked a ton of shit.

Now obviously America has changed from Jack Johnson's time to Floyd Mayweather's time but what has oddly stayed the same is white people still despise the loud, brash, ****y, black fighter. That fighter usually generates the most revenue because the majority of white fans pay to see that fighter lose. That is the fighter that is most remembered. You all know this.

Just like Johnson, Ali, and Tyson, Floyd no matter how much current posters hate that reality. Floyd defined the era. He was the most known fighter. He was the most polarizing fighter. He is the fighter most of the boxers from the following era pattern themselves after. He was the cash cow. He was the face of the sport.

Just look at this thread so far. The 2 posters before me that claimed Manny would be more remembered post about Floyd more than any other fighter.

Another excellent point. Posters will vote Manny just because though.

It is funny that you can come to this forum and see a new Floyd thread daily. Usually its the 15th version of the exact thread that was created in 2006, 2008, 2010 (2x) 2012, 2014, 2015 etc.

it's funny because if you look at the first page right now, there's 2 threads about floyd, one is made by the bigpoppa, and there is 1 on manny made by a floyd fan. stop reaching dunn. both get trashed on here pretty much the same. stop acting like one gets hated on more than the other.

PAC, both were great in the ring. But there is more to it than that PAC grew up dirt poor , Floyd did not grow up rich but you cannot compare poor in America to 3rd world country squalor.PAC is also just more likable he is humble , did a ton more outside the ring when it comes to charity.Had zero education and went on to graduate from college , is a senator and would not be surprised if he was elected President of his country one day.Plus add that the man is beloved by a whole country , Floyd does not have that kind of love or admiration in the States.
