Probably that’s the reason. I saw the like 8 months ago and was watching the build up, and Memphis kept coming up and I remember thinking why? Like of all the places for this big fight why Memphis.

It was originally to be in Vegas, but after a melee at the press conference, they wouldn't grant Tyson a license.

        Gotcha that makes sense.

Tyson Holyfield 2 was HUGE. Everybody I know who's remotely into boxing was watching it live. Everybody remembers where they were when Tyson had Holyfield's ear for lunch. Was one of the most shocking things ever witnessed on live TV. The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster and 911 are the only 2 things I can think of that were more shocking on live TV. (I'm not old enough for the JFK stuff)

Lol Tyson had some issues man. I’m glad he’s doing alright now and from what I read, he’s doing well for himself financially too.

It’s fcuked up to think about how he was essentially fighting at the end of his career solely because he was bankrupt. Dude made millions upon millions of dollars in his career.

I hear a lot more about this fight. As far as heavyweight rematches, I think it’s pretty high. Probably not as high as say Tyson - Holyfield rematch, but I think the rematch is good.

I think it’s hard to get a gauge on how it ranks up to match ups in the past. We live in a different world now. Everyone’s so distracted by so many things. We have crazy means of entertainment at our fingertips. I think it’s to the point where you can’t even compare fights of old to fights from now in terms of popularity or how ‘big’ the event or how ‘successful’ it is. It’s a different game now being in the age of social media and streams, illegal streams, being bombarded by all types of media all the time. People buried in their smartphones all the time, like me right now.

If a boxing match does even marginally successful numbers these days, I consider that a huge win.

Of course they have to build it and try to make it bigger then it is. If it’s exciting one then maybe a third fight will be a bit closer to what they wish it to be .
I'm getting some serious deja vu.

I haven’t heard that from anyone not involved with the fight.
Boxing isn’t a mainstream sport anymore. The last heavyweight fight that was talked about daily on ESPN outside of fight week was Tyson/Lewis. They were doing daily updates from each camp months out because it would do huge numbers on sports center every night.
I think it will do a solid PPV number but it’s not doing a million buys or anything.
When you get outside the NSB bubble there isn’t a lot of talk about this one.
It’s an intriguing rematch for sure but neither guy is a household name and you need the casuals to be willing to drop $80 on it for it to do big business.

What a laughable post. Maybe in England and Germany. That fight wouldn’t have done 100,000 buys in North America.

Do the casuals even care about it this time around? It was pretty hype for the first one but this one?
