So everyone is clear, cinco de Mayo is a celebration of the Mexican state of Puebla, not a grand national holiday like Mexican Independence Day. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated more in the USA by Mexican Americans more than it is in Mexico. Most Mexican Americans are unaware of the significance of that holiday and the history behind the battle.
Quite literally it would be like equating the battle of the Alamo or san jacinto with being a full American holiday rather than a Texas one.
There is no arguing this....it is what it is. And even in the USA it has become “cinco de drinko”.....simply a reason to have a party and enjoy copious amounts of Tecate, tequila, and tex mex food

do you live in mexico?? i do, and 5 de mayo is celebrated all over the country, is a long weekend, kids dont go to school, federal employees and many others get the day off and people use that weekend to travel, thats the reason you see many mexicans in vegas or other cities in those dates...
that is why is important for mexican boxers and singers, etc ...
