that time when he was in the p4p list...you've got to name the fighters below him in the list that should've been ahead of him (how & why) to validate your argument. otherwise, just shut the fu@k up.
Now that the dust has settled it should be clear like i said all a long....

Yes, another one...
Either this is a concerted effort among a group of guys to post about him or there's literally that many alts. I swear some of you barely even watch boxing. And it says more about the guys who can't decisively beat a guy who has clearly been on the slide since 2016.Comment

But what does that make Canelo? Cuz his team avoided the fight for almost 2 years... Then lost the 1st fight and 2nd fight should have been a draw.
He is full of shyt, and love fighting fighting bums. But he still a p4p fighter.
So i say he is/was a little overrated.Comment

LoL these retroactive threads about guys who are now on the downslide who never were nothing are silly hater fan bs. The guy was a consensus p4p guy for years. Thats a fact. You can't say the guy was trash now that age has taking him down a notch or two in ability & act like hes been this version of himself the whole time.Comment

You can't be on the slide from an elevated position if you never climbed to that elevated position, except on the paper of analyst's who get all hyped for hypejobs if they're the main guys kryptonite.(kryptonite=stick used to beat one with by saying you ducking him)(Hypejob meaning that when he was judged by the same criteria his so called rivals are judged by he is a step below the absolute best in terms of greatness but hes their equal in terms of being able to hang with anyone at his 1 weight.)Yes, another one...

(Canelo has already surpassed him as expected, because his trajectory was always headed in that direction from day 1; because he was learning on the job lil by lil developing by testing himself against his equals, while ggg was headed in the direction of the guy that made someone a great moreso than himself.
And its due to differences in age going pro & career trajectory due to being in a position where you're taught to avoid spoiling the 1 lottery payday at all costs.)
But in the process he solidified himself as #2 right behind the best of his era but unable to match his accomplishments due to being bigger than Canelo while never challenging himself in multiple divisions for fear of losing his bargaining chipComment

He did very well against, who is now seen as, the consensus P4P no1. Two competitive, high level fights which ended in what many deemed controversial decisions.
Canelo is elite level, and his 1-1 with GGG could just as easily of been seen as 0-2. I'd argue that he did indeed look impressive to most.
As for 'the most overrated p4p entrant in recent years', that is Broner's number 6 placement after beating Rees. It's going to be a long while before that one is beaten.Comment

Ken Norton can't be far behind Ali then. I'm sure you have him top 10 all time.I don't do P4P nor did I ever consider Golovkin to be the best fighter in the world at any point in his career, but wherever you got Canelo, GGG can't be too far behind if we're talking how good a fighter they were regardless of weight, irrespective of actual achievements which are based just as much on opportunity as ability.Comment

He's been on the slide since 2016. He hit an age where the majority of boxers and athletes start to decline. Nothing to indicate that Golovkin didn't fit that mold, considering he's been fighting consistently since he was what, 12/13? Pretty coincidental that Canelo wants to be done by 35, don't you think? And who noticed that Golovkin wasn't quite the same in 2016? Hopkins. You can't be on the slide from an elevated position if you never climbed to that elevated position, except on the paper of analyst's who get all hyped for hypejobs if they're the main guys kryptonite.(kryptonite=stick used to beat one with by saying you ducking him)(Hypejob meaning that when he was judged by the same criteria his so called rivals are judged by he is a step below the absolute best in terms of greatness but hes their equal in terms of being able to hang with anyone at his 1 weight.)

Nah, you're talking two different things. There's accomplishments, which are what make you 'great' and put you on the ATG rankings etc, and there's head to head at a particular moment in time which is how I typically understand folk mean P4P (though few folk are very clear and most vary their methods)... the way it's often phrased is 'who would win right now(or who is best) if they were the same size?'. well every now and then we get an answer.
The poster was refering to P4P I think in his original question, and it turns out that when they did fight they were virtually inseperaable in terms of ability and were the same weight give or take. The argument could be made that GGG was past his best too, but that could be countered with the possibility that Canelo hadn't (or hasn't) yet reached his peak.
Meh. Like I say, I don't do P4P anyway... think that ish is just silly, but if you do it's gotta be acknowledged that the two fighters were very much on a level.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 02-05-2020, 02:16 PM.Comment

I'm sure you know styles make fights. Some styles are just problematic for fighters, doesn't mean that fighter is on the same level.Nah, you're talking two different things.
