They will never release the purse splits, the live gate or the PPV buys. They can't, because all of the numbers will be bad, especially when you compare them to what AJ is making. Also, the entire goal is to look like they are doing as well or better than AJ is doing so that they can negotiate a 50/50 split, which is ridiculous because Fury's last fight had 4k and more comps than bought tickets and Wilder has never even came close to selling out an arena. The PPV numbers will be "leaked" by someone with no ties to the promotion of the fight and once that fake number has been spread around to enough websites, it becomes a fact in the fans' eyes. But it's a shell card game. A real PPV number would be something like 214 PPV buys or an off number like that, not "around 300k" like they will try and tell us. And judging by the under card of this fight, it will be lucky to do 200k in real numbers. If Wilder loses, he has screwed himself royally. He will never get anywhere near what Hearn offered him again. If Fury loses, he can still fight AJ in the UK and make a killing in that fight, even without a belt.

How as fans can we know if any of that is true? Fans arguing over which fighters make the most is like trying to argue over which college football players are being paid the most. There's so much shadiness going on that we really have no idea who is being paid what.

          Is that really true though?

DAZN is clearly spending way more than the fights are generating. Isn't it possible other platforms would have to do the same sometimes to compete?

The live gate is public record. Anyone can email the commission and obtain this.

Fighters are giving up plenty to fight on DAZN. They get paid plenty but get less exposure. For now, anyway. And they risk being frozen out by the established players while they are DAZN fighters.

Then I suppose there is debate about what these fights generate for DAZN. Nothing is a one off for them. It's a subscription and a startup. They won't measure return in the same way a network PPV would.

Fox and ESPN might spend to stay competitive... but they'd only do it for a good reason. ie some future expectation. Who wants to be competitive in a loss making industry?
