Montiel gets up from the monster Donaire left hook. Yeah he got KO’ed, but dude was in convulsions and still made it up🙈
Ugh that's up there for worst ref ever. How did he think the guy was okay to continue?!?!? Honorable mention for the Holly Holym Anne Sophie Mathis ref untangling a semi concious fighter's arm from the rope to be sent to her imminent demise.
Seeing as my Shavers - Holmes KD mention for #1 was well received, I’ve posted a link in case anyone wants to relive that moment. I just watched it again and I am amazed at how Holmes bounced back up. Unreal!
I watched Holmes-Shavers with my dad. When Holmes hit the canvas my father jumped up screaming "This fight is OVER" and we were both shocked when Holmes got up.
I recall during the Bobby Czyz - Prince Williams fight when Williams got stunned by stayed on his feet then woke up when he got hit again. Hagler was doing tv commentary and said "that happens all the time in the gym" and I said to myself damn I'm glad I'm not a boxer.
What, in your opinion, is the greatest, grittiest, get back up from a brutal knockdown moment in boxing history, and why?
Here are five memorable moments for me ... of course there are more, but just wanted to give five of my favorites to start. What are some I missed?
1. Larry Holmes gets up after crumpling under an explosive overhand right from Earnie Shavers, arguably the hardest puncher in boxing history
2. Tyson Fury gets up after being felled by a chopping right hand followed by a crisp, explosive left cross-cum-hook from Deontay Wilder, arguably the third hardest puncher in boxing history
3. Anthony Joshua gets up after taking a thunderous straight right hand from Wladimir Klitschko (arguably the sixth hardest puncher in boxing history) that sends the sweat on his hair flying backwards several rows into the audience
4. Muhammad Ali, albeit in a losing effort, gets up from a thunderous, jaw-breaking left hook from Smokin’ Joe Frazier, who owned arguably the best left hook in history
5. Andy Ruiz gets up after being jolted to the canvas by a thudding left hook to the chin from Anthony Joshua
You are very free with rating these guys and I would argue with them. I doubt Shavers is the hardest hitter of all time. A hard puncher, yes but not the hardest ever. He never was able to win a title with his hardest punch of all time while harder punchers Tyson and Foreman did. Frazier had a great left hook because he threw it so many times not because it was the hardest left hook. He traded blows with Foreman and we know how that ended. If we are talking hardest left hook pound for pound then Trinidad had a much harder left hook than Frazier for his weight class. Since you have already rated Shavers the hardest puncher, Wilder, the third hardest and Wlad the 6th hardest why don't you finish the job and tell us who were the 2nd, 4th and 5th hardest hitters. As for the best comeback from a hard knock down I have seen hundreds of them and would have to see them all again to pick the best .
