Comments Thread For: Fury Trainer Steward: Davison Was Supposed To Be Part of Team

SugarHill Steward, the newly appointed trainer of Tyson Fury, was under the impression that he would be working alongside former Fury trainer Ben Davison before Davison and the undefeated heavyweight suddenly, yet amicably, split in December.

Ben's ego got in the way and rightfully so . He put in some good work with fury , I didnt think he needed a new trainer . I think Tyson won the wilder fight . So what he got a massive cut vs wallin early , fury didnt look great whoopity doo.....did fury look good pre wilder 1 ?? That's what I thought , this man fights to the level of his opposition . I personally dont like this big change before the rematch but we shall see .

Reading between the lines of what Sugarhill and Tyson have said about the split, I think it was Davison who removed himself from the team because he didn't want to play second fiddle to somebody else in camp and in the corner.

It's possible that Sugar and Tyson have come up with a game plan that Ben doesn't like and couldn't give his backing to.

          That's the more likely scenario.

If that's right, then I hope to God that we see a more aggressive Fury in the rematch. I thought Roach was **** on the money in the first fight when his instincts were telling him to get Fury to push on, to push forward... but Davison was cautious

I have a strong inkling that Wilder gets the KO this time. When he does, I think Fury takes on someone like Helenius or Povetkin so he can say he's back. Then Joshua, which I think Fury loses by SD, since judges will favor Joshua as he plans to fight for many more years. Then Fury ends his career or takes on a meaningless fight then ends his career.

Maybe. Good on Davison for sticking to his guns if that’s the case, but I Totally understand fury going with a more proven coach in the rematch. One less knockdown and he would have won. It’s the small things in boxing that make all the difference and he thinks Hill has it. I wish him the worst of luck though. Go Deontay !

Fury shouldn't try to slug it out with Wilder. That would likely get him KTFO. But you can fight aggressively without getting into a slug out. Get in close whenever you see the chance, and stay in close throwing short hooks and uppercuts. Wilder needs space to generate power, so don't give him space.
