Boxing is an outcome driven sport. The outcome of Ruiz training camp, i.e Ruiz' physical appearance, tells me the trainer should be fired. Clearly he wasn't getting his message across.

If a fighter won't turn up for camp when his trainer needs him to, that's the fighter's fault, not the trainer's.

Doesn't matter who your trainer is if you ignore everything he says and party instead.

Robles was a good enough trainer to get him the belts in the first place.

In other sports you can't fire the players so you fire the coaches. I am not disagreeing in any way Robles isn't a good trainer or decent man. He failed to meet his objective, for whatever reasons.

Did you think that the first fight? No. Andy is a professional. Not new to this. Not much a trainer can do if the fighter wont listen and thinks hes bigger than he is.

Trainer was there when he Kod AJ. Firing him after his own loss is another attempt to save his face. The Fat *** could have took it serious. He knew. Plus his head trainer had little to do with his strength and conditioning coach that he supposed to have hired. He can fire his whole team and still be a disgrace to the sport.

You aren't firing him because he is bad, you are firing him because th two didn't connect and get Ruiz in the shape he needed to be.

Yes but in the end he was hired to do a job and he was unsuccessful. They obviously didn't mesh well together.

I disagree. You and others are missing my point. Coaches and trainers get fired all the time because their methods are not a good fit for the athlete they were hired to work with. Ruiz takes much of the blame but you can't expect Robles to keep his employment given what we saw in the last fight.

Andy Ruiz is to blame. He was completely unprofessional heading into the rematch. He let the win get to his head. That’s a prime example of letting wins get to you. He deserved to lose. No trainer on Earth could’ve forced Ruiz to take camp seriously.

Yeah i can see your point also. remember at the press conference after the fight his trainer was going on about how hes got Andys back until the end...kinda makes you wonder if he was feeling guilt in a way.

But even with the best of trainers the fighter has to have respect and discipline. Mike Tyson is an example once he got to big and fired all his trainers and not listening and nobody would question him because they cant. Even the movie Rocky 3 showed that when Rocky went up against clubber lane.

Ruiz will fight on but he will never shake this incident. Sad part is that he got a nice raise in the rematch and really doesn't care anymore.
