The article was ridiculous. You could tell SI and Mannix were just trying to be different. Their arguments for Ward were nonsensical.

He claimed Cotto was not a good win for Mayweather because Cotto was at the end of his career. But listed him as a good win for Canelo who fought him years later. That's definitely nonsensical.

Yeah I think it was clear Mannix was told Floyd can't be chosen given his out of ring history. Once that decision is made, you can't pick Manny or Canelo and look credible.

Ward was undefeated, and picking him neutralizes any criticism of not picking Floyd be racial in any way. He also didn't get into any trouble (like Canelo with PED's) and didn't have any problematic political positions (like Manny with gays).

Ward was one of those guys who won fights but was horribly unpleasing to watch. Just a really ugly style. Similar to Bernard Hopkins in that regard. The difference being that Bernard was entertaining on the mic.

The problem with Ward is that he lost first Kovalev fight and also he fought very dirty with headbutts and other grapling techniques (and he admitted being dirty in some fights). Every fight he has fought says he fights very dirty.

So to me with 1 loss and should have been DQ at least in 1 fight, I'm not sure he is as good as they say.

But he was a good fighter, yes.

Thanks for the article.For me whilst Andre Ward is not my favourite fighter he is one of the ones I admire the most .Notably because I feel his stance towards religion is genuine and he trys to live a clean life inside and outside of the ring.I know noone is perfect and we all sin but at least he trys to make a effort to live a clean life.Even the great Muhammad Ali as much as he talked about religion and God had a lot of affairs which I dont think Ward has done.To me this denotes a stronger mentality as well eg discipline in the face of temptation.

B-hop was good but and maintained a high level for many years after being forty but no way.. even Crawford or Lomachenko deserves it more than B-hop I think.
