I've only seen this fight once or twice but I thought a draw was more accurate. I'll have to watch it back because consensus definitely seems to suggest GGG won. Ironically, it appears GGG should never have demanded Canelo stand and face him because the consensus flipped in the rematch and most thought Canelo won.

We need to just cut the Sh!et, GGG won the first fight comfortably. The draw was a Robbery. Fury getting a draw was a robbery too. He won every round that didn't have a knockdown. He even came back in the twelfth round. People see what they want to see.

What made Canelo GGG fight 1 a fiasco was Byrd’s card. No boxing writer dared to question Moretti’s scorecard or Trella’s scorecard. With Moretti, the oldest playa in da game having scored many Canelo fights had Canelo shy 2 rounds from a Majority Draw with Trella. So then you have Trella whim was K2’s go to judge of choice who scored a draw.
If Byrd has scored a close card nobody would talking shet. The debate would’ve “flipped” for compubox stats vs running, and as many in industry pointed out, a style similar to Hagler vs SRL. Canelo fought loose in the first fight, and it too was close. Because of the nature of 3 judges it was a Draw.
Second fight was one of the best fights of the decade, extreme tactical war and power punchers. Power punching chessmatch was the rematch.
The problem is karma or jinx. GGG camp talked so much shet and the Canelo haters loved the pandering from Team GGG. when they saw GGG get beat by the smaller man where no other GGG opponent ever displayed such Ring IQ they cried.
Truth is Canelo Alvarez is the baddest fighter in the game.

In fact polls at the time suggest that most of the public and press still thought that GGG won, just that it was much closer. (I think about 60% instead of the 80% or so from the first bout)
There was a selected list of professional boxers and trainers that had Canelo winning (or in a few cases simply congratulating Canelo) and it was quite extensive but I don't know that anyone went to the effort of compiling a list of the the professionals who thought Golovkin won.
Personally I had GGG winning both, the first pretty clear, the second I coulda gone either way.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 01-16-2020, 03:06 AM.

I thought and still believe , from what I saw , Canelo won the second fight in all facets of the game
And I certainly don’t have any interest in a third fight as I can see GGG in a downward spiral

Im glad you brought that up. It was very interesting seeing his fans try to re-write history as soon as Nelo won the 2nd fight.
And even re-writing the details surrounding the first fight aka why it took so long.
