Joe Smith Jr. vs Jean Pascal (And other possible opponents for each)

    Would Smith retire Pascal?

Would Pascal give Smith the dog fight of his life?

At this point in Pascal's career it's a pretty high risk low reward fight, but at the same time he never ducks anyone. To me at least, it seems like it could be a pretty big draw on the east coast. Though I guess it only makes sense as a fantasy fight at this point? Either way I think it has potential to be a hell of a war of attrition while it lasted.

It's just I don't see Pascal beating Beterbiev, or any point of a Bivol rematch and he doesn't seem positioned in the WBO rankings to fight whoever gets the vacant title. Although a brown envelope could change that. He wouldn't do well vs Gvozdyk either I imagine, but a Kovalev rematch could be competitive at this point in their careers as their trajectories are closer to meeting. Maybe that's too bold of a way into the WBO rankings however, and an Eleider Alvarez rematch might make more sense for a few reasons.

For Joe I think it, Callum Johnson would be an interesting fight, or Anthony Yarde, but doubt either side are clamouring for those matchups. I also doubt they'd put Joshua Buatsi in there with him but figured I might as well throw his name in there with the other UK guys.

Anyway, enough rambling for now. I'm no match maker but just a few thoughts I had based on some potential names I've heard other people throw around lately.

I think Pascal would beat him but there are better fights out there for Pascal.

    1. Badou Jack rematch. We all loved that fight and we'd all watch it again.

    2. Eleider Alvarez rematch. Extremely close fight the first time, both have won and lost fights since.

    3. Dominic Boesel. WBA Interim and IBO Champ. Pascal has been IBO champ before and respects that belt, and Boesel will get his shot eventually.

    4. Sergey Kovalev trilogy. Coming off a KO loss, could be a good scrap.

    5. Marcus Browne deserves another ass kicking

I think pascal should retire . But if he doesnt he should rematch browne or pascal , although I love the Smith vs pascal matchup . Iam not so sure that's the route team Pascal will want to take . I think it would be a barn burner and I would slightly favour Pascal. Let's hope it happens, but I dont exactly have high Hope's

Thanks guys. Good posts and I value both of your opinions.

Board still wont let me green k you famicommander. I know you don't care about that nonsense, but I hate seeing a negative connotation on a good poster.

I want Pascal to get that sweet sweet Canelo payday and then ride off into the sunset.

It would be nice for Pascal but I don't see what's in it for Canelo.

He has already won and vacated a real belt at 175. No reason he'd want the WBA Regular belt.

Pascal should go for the Badou Jack fight or Kovalev!

Whatever pays him the most and i think both those fights pay him the most and he can beat them both, particularly Kovalev at this stage!

Pascal is insane, he has a great resume and likely
Will edge his way into the Hall of Fame!

Oh I know it wouldn't happen. I just think if anyone deserves that big payday, it's Jean Pascal. The guy's resume is a whos who at 168/175

It seems both are going to stay on their own side of the street. Would be a fun fight though, same for either Vs C Johnson. Yarde, Zurdo, Jack

Pascal should call out Froch. Carl still has enough ego to at least be tempted and Pascal would earn well from it. Maybe unrealistic but **** it worth a try

Yeah I should say that was all written from a fight fan perspective looking for some 50/50 type wars. Pascal deserves the biggest money fight he can get I agree. He really won my heart this year, and won me some decent cash too. I'd hate to see him end his career with permanent damage (so maybe not put him in with any of those punchers...) and would not mind one bit if he re-matched Jack and retired, whatever the outcome of the fight was. Hell he took enough punishment in that fight and I wanted to see him go immediately to a hospital after. If promoted properly and hyped based off how great the first fight it could do pretty well one would think. Maybe a nice middle ground all things considered.
