Comments Thread For: Khan: I'm The One Fight Mayweather Avoided and Didn't Want!

Originally posted by BIGPOPPAPUMP View PostBolton star Amir Khan is convinced that he was avoided for several years by retired five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. A fight between Khan and Mayweather had been discussed numerous times, but it never came off. Mayweather retired back in September of 2015, when he dominated Andre Berto over twelve rounds. Khan was reportedly in the running for that fight, but he was passed over.

2009: Amir Khan rebounds from his shocking loss to Breidis Prescott by beating an old Marco Antonio Barrera and winning a belt at 140. Floyd returns from a mini-retirement/vacation to shut out Juan Manuel Marquez on PPV at 147.
2010: Khan scores impressive victories over Malignaggi and Marcos Maidana at 140 to defend his belt. Floyd routes Shane Mosley on PPV at 147 and then takes another extended break.
2011: Khan unifies at 140 against an older but seemingly rejuvenated Zab Judah and ends the year with a close and controversial loss to Lamont Peterson. Floyd knocks out Victor Ortiz on PPV at 147 with Ortiz coming off a career-best performance against Andre Berto.
2012: Khan gets knocked out against Danny Garcia in his bid to regain a belt at 140 and then scores a non-descript stoppage in his return bout to end the year. Floyd wins a competitive decision against Miguel Cotto at 154 on PPV, then he goes to jail for a few months.
2013: Khan struggles to edge out Julio Diaz at 147, Diaz is a former lightweight titlist who was coming off of a draw with Shawn Porter. Floyd scores wins over Robert Guerrero at 147 and Canelo Alvarez at 152. Guerrero is coming off an impressive win over Andre Berto. Both take place on PPV.
2014: Khan gets back on track and scores impressive wins over Luis Collazo and Devon Alexander at 147. Floyd wins a pair of decisions over Marcos Maidana, who was coming off of an upset win over Adrien Broner.
2015: Khan wins a tougher-than-expected decision over Chris Algieri. Floyd wins the long-awaited showdown via decision against Manny Pacquiao and then ends his career against Andre Berto.
Would I have liked to see Mayweather-Khan? Sure, but do I see it as an egregious duck? No I don't, because Amir Khan didn't get himself into position soon enough. He was always a viable candidate, but he never made himself THE candidate like say Marcos Maidana or Victor Ortiz. I happen to think that if Khan had beaten Danny Garcia and beaten a welterweight contender or two in 2013 instead of 2014, then he might have gotten the assignment instead of Maidana. I will say that seeing Khan struggle at times against Chris Algieri makes me doubt that he could have beaten Floyd but that's just my two cents.Last edited by emceetns; 01-14-2020, 03:04 PM.

All the usual hate for Khan but let's be honest, he would of been a good opponent for Floyd after the collazo fight. And Floyd chose not to pick him for whatever reason. Khan has a lot of fans and it's a cross Atlantic fight drawing international attention. He fought maidana who Khan beat so why not Khan. Let's be honest styles make fights and if Floyd didn't have enough pop to really trouble Khan then it would have been an interesting fight. When Khan still had speed in those hands. There was a reason Floyd chose berto and gurrero and those likes and not Khan. Whatever that reason may be..Khan won the poll remember, Khan was a former world champion. I'm not saying Khan had a chance vs Floyd but the usual arrogant dismissive attitude from.majority of you guys overlooks the actual facts of the matter

Exactly Khan lost every poll except twitter.

My 1st reaction to this headline was to think about Khan's chin or the lack thereof, but there is a small grain of truth to this statement. Khan's speed and being a front runner like Zab would have led to a closer points win for Mayweather, but Money would have still won that thing 8 rds to 4 or something.
