One-sided, disappointing fight after an interesting build up. Habazin was a let down. Shields is fine (though not her entourage), it's the lack of competition that is a problem. Women's boxing is still developing and presumably it will get more competitive with time, but when they try and compare Shields' accomplishments with Lomachenko's, they're really not doing anyone a favour.

Women's boxing.....Is just not a sport for me and I've no problem saying it.The gulf between a lot of these competitors is some times embarrassing and quite often some 'skill sets ' are nothing more than a school yard mess. There is the occasional decent contest but given how often it's thrown at us the law of averages says this must be the case. This 'sport' has a long way to go to really get me hooked and i'm around it in the gyms lots!....for now girls put the kettle on!

Consistently announcers downplay Braekhus in favor of Katie Taylor and Shields.
I think they meant she was the first female to headline a premium cable card. She was the main event on ShoBox a few times before she was on the Braekhus card.

Habazin would have been a let down because she was nowhere near a top female fighter at JMW or any other weight, WBO and WBC played a bit fast and loose with their very thin female rankings (though not so thin that Habazin warranted a top slot with either of 'em) to get her the shot even though there was far more capable fighters with both orgs.

And with regard to competitiveness the depth increases in women's boxing as the weights get lower. In the higher weightclasses the numbers of female professional fighters globally numbers in the tens, climbing to to the low hundreds as you go down the classes... to really increase the overall quality of women's boxing the most important thing is like you say, to increase the size of the talent pool.

That said the rest of your point is valid, and however they got her the title record - and Claressa has proven she's a top class fighter -my main hope is that this success encourages more interest in female boxing and hopefully gets more ladies in the ring and more of them sympathetic to the sport out of it.

That's a bit like saying Lomachenko is greater than Mayweather because he got to 3 division titles sooner.

Claressa is OK... the problem is that she can't get proper opposition... female boxing ranks at 154-168 are crap... with only one exception: 'La Tigre' Jiménez at 168... Jiménez vs Shields would be very funny!...

Jimenez vs Crews Dezurn is made I think, that should be a nice one, then there's Savannah Marshall at the same weight for either of 'em (i just made a post yesterday about the psossibility of Marshall vs Crews before news of the Tigre fight came through) . But yeah, in general there just ain't the depth at the higher weights in the womens sport.

The Habazin fight was farcical TBH even given the depth limitations at the higher weight in the womens sport, but at the end of the day it's hard to be too mad:

Claressa got her 'record' which might help to raise the profile and popularity of the womens sport in the US.

Habazin got paid probably the highest payday she'll ever see, not bad for a Croatian street kid who slept in the gym.

Habazin earned a kinda of moral victory by surviving despite having no business fighting for 1 yet alone 2 titles and basically being set up as a sacrificial lamb.

... they are fighting tonight, actually...

... Alejandra Jimenez is the only female fighter who can fight like a "male"... (and I also think that she can even make 160 for Shields)...
